Overview
The Simrad 000-14921-001 is a removable fist microphone for the Simrad RS40 fixed-mount VHF radio.
It plugs into either the front or rear microphone port on an RS40, which helps when the radio body is mounted inside a console, under the dash, or in an electronics locker but you still want the handset where you can reach it.
For longer runs, it can be used with an optional fist-mic extension cable in 5 m (16.5 ft) or 10 m (33 ft) lengths to place the radio and handset in separate locations.
Key features
- Compatible with Simrad RS40 VHF radios
- Connects to the front or rear mic port on the RS40 for flexible mounting layouts
- Removable handset style mic, handy for stowing when not in use
- Supports remote handset placement when used with an optional 5 m or 10 m extension cable
- Works well as a spare or replacement mic for an existing RS40 installation
Compatibility and fit
This microphone is intended for the Simrad RS40. If your boat has a different Simrad VHF model, confirm the radio model on the front panel or label before ordering.
Installation and setup
Choose the microphone connection point based on how your RS40 is mounted. A front connection is convenient when the radio is at the helm, while a rear connection can keep wiring hidden when the RS40 is mounted inside a console or electronics cabinet.
If you add an extension cable, route it like any other helm wiring run: support it along the way, avoid sharp bends and pinch points, and leave enough service loop so the mic can be unplugged without straining the connector.
Use on board
This is a good match for boats where the RS40 needs to live out of the weather but the mic needs to be at the helm, in a pilothouse, or at a nav station. It also makes sense to keep aboard as a spare handset for boats that see heavy VHF use.
Maintenance and care
Keep the connector clean and dry, and rinse salt spray off the handset with fresh water when needed. Avoid harsh solvents that can soften plastics, and check the cable and strain relief periodically if the mic is used in a high-traffic cockpit or helm area.
