Overview
The Garmin BlueChart g3 Vision HD VPC023R is an electronic chart for New Zealand waters for compatible Garmin chartplotters, available as a microSD/SD card or as a download. It adds practical planning layers like Depth Range Shading with up to 10 depth ranges, plus detailed contours with up to 1-foot intervals where that data is available.
Coverage includes the coasts of both the North and South Islands, along with the Three Kings Islands, Auckland Islands, Campbell Island, Antipodes Islands, and the Bounty Islands. On the water you can lean on chart detail like aids to navigation, depth information, tides and currents, plus ports, marinas, and points of interest where they are charted.
Vision layers add perspective tools that help with situational awareness: 3D MarinerEye and FishEye views, satellite imagery overlays in supported areas, and relief shading where available. These are the features people tend to use when they are threading entrances, working along a contour line, or checking clearance and depth targets before committing to a route.
Key features
- New Zealand coverage for both main islands plus Three Kings, Auckland, Campbell, Antipodes, and Bounty Islands
- Depth Range Shading for up to 10 depth ranges to help keep a target depth in view
- Shallow Water Shading at a user-defined depth for quick visual separation of skinny water
- Detailed contours with up to 1-foot intervals where available for bottom structure and fishing structure work
- MarinerEye and FishEye 3D views for an above-water and below-waterline perspective
- Satellite imagery overlays and imagery for many ports, marinas, bridges, and landmarks where available
- Auto Guidance can calculate a suggested route using the draft and overhead clearance values you enter
- Made for compatible Garmin chartplotters that support BlueChart g3 Vision and accept a microSD/SD card
Variants
This chart is offered in two delivery formats.
The chart region and feature set are the same across the variants; the difference is whether you receive a pre-programmed card or you install the chart to a card using Garmin Express.
- 010-C0757-00: Format microSD/SD. The chart comes on a pre-programmed card that you insert into the chartplotter’s microSD/SD slot to access the chart layers.
- 010-D0517-00: Format Download. The chart is installed to an SD card using Garmin Express and then used by inserting that card into the chartplotter.
Compatibility and fit
This cartography is for Garmin chartplotters that support BlueChart g3 Vision. Confirm your model supports this format and has an available microSD/SD card slot before ordering, especially if your system uses newer chart formats or built-in mapping that may not match accessory card formats.
Installation and setup
For the card version, insert the microSD/SD card into the chartplotter and power up. Once the plotter finishes booting, select the chart source and enable the layers you want to see, such as depth shading, shallow water shading, 3D views, and imagery overlays where available.
For the download version, Garmin Express is used to install the chart to an SD card for use in a registered chartplotter. Plan on dedicating a microSD/SD card to this chart region, since only one chart should be installed per card.
Use on board
Depth and shallow-water shading are the day-to-day tools for coastal runs around New Zealand, whether you are following a contour line outside a harbor entrance or keeping a safety buffer around reefs and shoals. The 3D views and imagery layers help with orientation when land and marks are visible, particularly in tighter areas like marina approaches.
This chart is a good match for skippers running a Garmin MFD in New Zealand who want depth-focused planning tools and extra visual context on top of standard navigation detail. It also fits well for anglers who work structure, since contour detail and shading make it easier to stay on a break line without constantly zooming in and out.
Notes for route guidance
Auto Guidance creates a suggested path based on the depth and overhead clearance values you enter. Treat it as a planning aid and verify the route against your surroundings, local conditions, and updated notices before you follow it underway.
