Overview
The Garmin 010-02780-00 is a 4 ft open-array radar antenna that mounts to a compatible GMR xHD3 Series open-array radar pedestal. The 4 ft array has a 1.8° horizontal beam width and a 23° vertical beam width, and the antenna weight for the 4 ft model is 5.5 kg (12.2 lb). This is the antenna array only; the radar pedestal is not included.
On board, this is the piece that physically rotates on the pedestal and shapes the radar beam. Radar controls and setup are handled from the chartplotter on the network, so the main job here is fit and mounting: the correct array length, clean mechanical attachment, and enough clearance for rotation on a hardtop, mast, or radar arch.
Key features
- 4 ft open-array antenna for GMR xHD3 Series open-array radar pedestals (array only; pedestal not included)
- Antenna length: 132.7 cm (4 ft 4 1/4 in.)
- Beam width (4 ft antenna): 1.8° horizontal, 23° vertical
- Antenna gain (4 ft antenna): 27 dB
- Water rating: IPX6
- Operating temperature range: -25 to 55°C (5 to 131°F)
- Antenna type: end-fed slotted waveguide
Compatibility and fit
This antenna is intended for GMR xHD3 Series open-array radar systems that use a separate pedestal and a bolt-on array. It is not a standalone radar scanner and it does not function by itself without the matching xHD3 pedestal and a chartplotter to control the radar.
Before ordering, confirm your pedestal is an xHD3 open-array model that supports the 4 ft antenna size, and confirm you have the mounting space for a rotating open array. Give the array room to spin without hitting antennas, outriggers, lights, or canvas.
Installation and setup
Installation is a mechanical swap onto the pedestal. Use the correct hardware and tighten the hex screws to 70 lbf-in (5.83 lbf-ft) so the array is secured without damaging the mounting points.
After the array is installed and the radar system is powered up, set the antenna size in the chartplotter radar installation menu so the system matches the 4 ft array. If the scanner is not aligned perfectly with the bow, set the front-of-boat offset so bearings line up with what you see on the water.
On-board use
This is a good match for boats that already run an xHD3 open-array pedestal and need a 4 ft array length for their mounting location. The 1.8° horizontal beam width helps keep close targets from blending together when you are working traffic, shorelines, and weather edges.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt and grime off the array after runs and check fasteners as part of your regular electronics inspection, especially after trailering or rough passages. Keep the rotation path clear and avoid tying lines, covers, or antennas where they can snag the moving array.
