Overview
The Garmin 010-10917-00 is a 19-pin power and data cable for GPSMAP 400 and 500 series chartplotters. It supports 10–32 Vdc input for typical 12V and 24V systems and uses a 3 A fuse on the positive feed.
This harness is used to bring power and signal wiring out from the back of the chartplotter for a clean helm install, a rewire, or a replacement when the original cable is damaged. It is not intended for Garmin fishfinders and sounders that use different power/data harnesses.
Key features
- 19-pin connector mates to compatible GPSMAP 400/500-series chartplotter ports.
- Power leads support 10–32 Vdc systems with a 3 A fuse in the positive supply path.
- NMEA 0183 connections are available for two serial ports (port 1: blue out, brown in; port 2: grey out, violet in).
- Black lead serves as power ground and NMEA 0183 ground in the wiring scheme.
- Includes additional conductors for accessory and alarm functions, plus Garmin CANet conductors on models that support CANet.
Compatibility and fit
This cable is for Garmin GPSMAP 400 and 500 series chartplotters that use the 19-pin power/data connection. Confirm the port style on the back of your unit and match it to the harness connector before ordering, especially on boats with older Garmin equipment that may look similar but uses a different plug.
It is not meant for standalone fishfinders and sounders. If your installation includes a sonar-capable display or separate sounder module, verify the required harness type for that specific setup before wiring.
Installation and wiring
Plan the routing from the chartplotter to your fuse block or distribution panel with strain relief behind the display and a drip loop where cables drop into the console. Keep the run away from ignition wiring, high-current motor leads, and VHF antenna cables where possible to reduce noise.
Connect red to positive and black to negative. Protect the positive feed with a 3 A fuse, either in the in-line holder on the harness or at the boat’s fuse block. Make terminations with marine-grade connectors and seal them with adhesive-lined heat shrink to handle washdowns, salt air, and vibration at the helm.
NMEA 0183 and accessory connections
If you are integrating NMEA 0183 equipment such as a DSC VHF, AIS, or other serial devices, use the blue and brown wires for port 1 transmit and receive, and the grey and violet wires for port 2. The black wire is used as the NMEA 0183 ground reference in the wiring scheme, so keep grounds consistent between devices.
The harness also includes an alarm output wire (yellow) that can be used to trigger an external horn or lamp through a relay. On chartplotter models that support Garmin CANet, the CANet conductors in the harness allow integration with compatible devices on that network.
Use cases on board
This cable is a good match for helm refits where a GPSMAP 400/500 series chartplotter is being moved to a new dash, wired to a clean fuse panel, or tied into an existing NMEA 0183 system for shared position, DSC calling, or AIS targets.
