Overview
The Blue Sea Systems 8511 is an AC 8-position 230V breaker panel for boats set up around European-spec AC power. It gives you eight circuit positions, comes with six installed 8A single-pole breakers, and carries a maximum panel amperage of 100A.
This panel arrives with the hot, neutral, and safety ground buses already installed and pre-wired, which keeps the wiring layout straightforward when you are building out or refitting an onboard AC distribution area. White toggle breakers, backlit circuit labels, and ON indicator LEDs make it easier to see circuit status in cabins, utility spaces, and other low-light parts of the boat.
The horizontal panel measures 10.50 in x 4.50 in, so it is easier to compare against an existing panel space before cutting or replacing. It works well as an extension panel or as a replacement for an older AC branch panel in a 230V system.
Key features
- 230V AC panel layout for boats wired to European shore power or onboard 230V AC distribution
- Eight circuit positions with six installed 8A single-pole A-Series white toggle breakers
- Hot, neutral, and safety ground buses are already installed and pre-wired at the panel
- Backlit circuit label positions and ON indicator LEDs at each circuit position
- 100A maximum panel amperage for broader AC branch distribution planning
- Traditional metal panel format that can be used as an extension panel or a full replacement
Installation and setup
For most installations, the work centers on mounting the panel, bringing in the AC feed correctly, terminating branch circuits cleanly, and labeling each protected load. The included cutout template and installation instructions help when you are replacing an existing panel or laying out a fresh electrical section in a new build.
As with any onboard AC work, this panel should be matched to the vessel's actual branch loads, conductor sizing, and protection plan. The pre-wired bus arrangement saves time, but the final installation still needs to follow the boat's wiring scheme and local electrical practice.
Compatibility and fit
This model is for 230V AC systems, so it belongs on boats that run European-spec shore power or onboard AC equipment built around that voltage. It is a good match when you need separate protected branches for common onboard AC loads and want them grouped in one clearly labeled panel.
Because the panel has six installed 8A breakers across eight positions, it also leaves room for a layout that may grow over time, provided the final circuit plan stays within the panel's 100A maximum rating. Check the panel dimensions against your available mounting space before ordering if you are replacing a panel in an existing cutout.
Use on board
This panel makes sense on cruising boats, sailboats, and workboats that need a clean way to split 230V AC service into individual branch circuits. It is especially useful in refits where a tidy, compact horizontal panel with visible circuit status is easier to work with than building a distribution section from separate parts.
