Overview

The Garmin 010-01870-30 is a STRIKER Plus 4 ice fishing bundle that gives you a compact fishfinder with built-in GPS, a Dual Beam-IF transducer, and a portable power kit. The 4.3" color display uses a 272 x 480 resolution, so returns and menus stay readable without taking up much space.

The included Dual Beam-IF transducer runs CHIRP 77 and CHIRP 200 kHz with 45° and 15° beam widths, and it transmits at 200 W (RMS) for clear separation in the water column. You can drop waypoints using the internal GPS and build Quickdraw Contours maps with 1' contours, with storage for up to 2 million acres.

In the carry bag, the system runs from a 7 Ah sealed lead-acid battery with up to 11 hours of runtime, and it charges with a 12 Vdc charger. The display unit is rated IPX7 and accepts 10 to 20 Vdc input, which fits typical 12 V boat systems rather than 24 V.

Installation and setup

The portable mount assembles with a Phillips screwdriver, and the fishfinder snaps into the cradle on the tilt/swivel mount. Power and transducer leads plug into the back of the unit, and the battery uses red and black spade connectors for quick hookups inside the bag.

For ice fishing, the transducer is meant to hang below the ice using the included float and float stop, which helps keep the element at a steady depth. Open-water installs normally use a different compatible transducer suited to transom, trolling-motor, or through-hull mounting; GT8 or GT15 transducers are commonly paired with this unit and are sold separately.

The bag includes tether loops, which helps when you want to secure the kit in a sled or keep it from sliding around in a cockpit or on deck.

Power and electrical planning

The device accepts 10 to 20 Vdc input and uses a 3 A fast-acting fuse. Current draw is rated around 0.225 A nominal with peaks up to 1.5 A, which is useful when you are budgeting loads on a small electronics bus.

From a fully discharged battery, a full charge takes about 10 to 12 hours at room temperature. Runtime varies with backlight setting and temperature, so cold-weather trips may call for keeping brightness under control and topping off the battery between outings.

Use cases on board

This bundle makes sense for anglers who move between fishing spots and want a fishfinder they can carry and set up quickly. It also works well as a portable sounder for a tender, kayak, or small skiff when you plan around the included ice-style transducer or swap to a mounting-style transducer for open water.

If the unit sees salt spray, a quick freshwater wipe-down after the trip helps keep connectors, zippers, and hardware in good shape.
