Overview
The Attwood Marine 66UW12W-7 is a 6-inch surface-mount underwater LED light with 12 LEDs, white output, and support for 12V and 24V DC systems. It produces 5,000 fixture lumens and uses the HPX light engine, which puts it in the higher-output end of this series for boats that need a single light with strong stern illumination.
This model has a low-profile housing with an electro-polished 316 stainless steel cover, a fully sealed electronic assembly, and an impact-resistant lens. It also uses active overheat protection and reverse polarity protection, which matters when the light is mounted in a wet area and tied into a boat's DC system.
It must be mounted below the waterline and it only operates underwater. That makes it a straightforward fit for owners adding underwater lighting to a transom or other below-waterline location where clean installation and white light output are the main priorities.
Key features
- 5,000 fixture lumens from a 12-LED HPX underwater light
- Runs on both 12V and 24V DC systems
- Current draw is 4.50A at 13.6V and 2.25A at 24V
- Surface-mount, low-profile housing with 6.00 inch length and 2.35 inch width
- 5.25 inch mounting-hole spacing and 0.56 inch wiring hole for the 6.0 HPX housing
- 3 ft sheathed wire for routing through the hull to a protected connection point
- Heat-Sync cooling with active overheat protection and reverse polarity protection
- Electro-polished 316 stainless steel cover, sealed electronics, and an impact-resistant lens
- Resists corrosion, chemicals, and UV exposure
- CE certified
Installation and fit
This light is built for surface mounting and keeps a shallow installed height of 0.56 inch, so it sits close to the hull rather than standing proud. For installers planning hole placement, the wiring hole is 0.56 inch and the wire collar depth is 0.30 inch.
The 3 ft sheathed wire gives enough lead for a clean run to a dry, protected splice or terminal point inside the boat. Because the light has to stay underwater in operation, placement should be checked against the boat's loaded waterline, trim, and usual running attitude before drilling.
Electrical and system integration
The dual-voltage setup makes this a practical match for boats with either 12V or 24V DC distribution. On a 12V system it draws 4.50A at 13.6V, and on a 24V system it draws 2.25A, which helps when planning switchgear, circuit protection, and cable runs for a stern-lighting circuit.
Reverse polarity protection adds a margin against wiring mistakes during installation, and the active overheat system is useful on boats that spend long periods in the water at the dock or at anchor with underwater lights running after dark.
Use on board
This is a good match for owners who want one high-output white underwater light rather than several smaller fixtures. It suits cruising boats, fishing boats, and family boats that spend evenings at anchor or at the dock and want more light around the stern and swim area.
The stainless cover, sealed electronics, and resistance to chemicals, UV exposure, and corrosion also make it a sensible option for boats that live in the water and see regular washdowns through the season.
