Overview

The Perko Solar-Ray is a deck-control searchlight range for boats that need a fixed pedestal light with manual aiming from the deck. This medium pedestal version uses an 8 inch base and is offered with 10, 12, or 14 inch nominal reflector sizes, with overall heights of 27-1/2, 29-1/2, or 32-1/2 inches depending on the reflector size.

The light is available in polished chrome or white powder-coated finish, giving owners a choice between a traditional bright metal look and a white finish that blends into many cabin tops, pilothouse roofs, and working deck installations. The yoke knob locks the vertical position, and the base knob locks horizontal rotation after the beam is set.

This 0883 deck-control style is for direct adjustment at the light and is not set up for added remote, wheel, or lever controls. Bulbs are ordered separately, so the final lamp choice should be matched to the vessel voltage, socket type, and reflector size before installation.

Installation and setup

Plan the mounting location around the 8 inch base, clear access below the mounting surface, and a cable route that keeps the wiring protected. The light is through-bolted to the deck or mounting surface with 5/16 inch machine screws, which are not supplied.

The electrical wire passes through the searchlight base, and the gland nut is tightened during assembly. Wiring should be handled by a qualified marine electrician and installed to the applicable standards for the vessel.

Electrical and bulb selection

The Solar-Ray 0883 series uses separately ordered bulbs. Available bulb tables cover multiple voltage choices, including 12, 24, 32, 120, and 230 volt options, but the bulb must match the searchlight size, socket type, and support stand arrangement.

When changing bulb type, the matching socket and stand may also need to change. Confirm the bulb catalog choice before commissioning the light, especially on boats with mixed AC and DC lighting systems or refit wiring.

This searchlight fits boats where a crew member can reach the light to aim it by hand, such as pilothouse roofs, cabin tops, flybridge areas, and working decks.
