Overview
The Jabsco 22870 Series is an 080 size bronze flexible impeller pump head kit for transfer and circulation duties where a compact pump head needs to move water, mixtures with entrained air, or liquids with soft solids without a pulsing flow.
This is a pump head kit rather than a complete electric pump, so the onboard voltage depends on the motor it is fitted to. The adaptor suits B3/B14 D80 frame motors to IEC 71 standard, and the pump head uses 1 inch BSP internal threaded ports for the plumbing connection.
Flow is rated up to 80 litres per minute at 1500 RPM, with dry self-priming up to 5 metres. The pump head is bronze with a brass end cover, a carbon/ceramic mechanical seal, and a 316 stainless steel shaft extension, giving it the kind of wet-end construction expected in demanding onboard service spaces.
Key features
- 080 size bronze pump head kit for the Jabsco 22870 Series.
- Rated flow up to 80 litres per minute at 1500 RPM for circulation or transfer work on board.
- Self-primes from dry up to 5 metres, useful when the pump sits above the liquid source.
- 1 inch BSP internal threaded ports support installations built around BSP pipework or hose adaptors.
- Epoxy-coated aluminium motor adaptor fits B3/B14 D80 frame motors to IEC 71 standard.
- Carbon/ceramic mechanical seal and nitrile seal elastomers are used across the model options.
- Bronze pump head, brass end cover, and 316 stainless steel shaft extension support use in wet machinery spaces.
- Non-pulsating flow helps when moving liquids where steady delivery matters.
- Handles hard or soft solids without clogging in appropriate pumping duties.
Variants
The pump head is offered with two impeller material configurations. Each configuration is tied to the impeller material used in the pump head, so the main buying difference is the liquid type and temperature range the impeller is suited to handle.
The bronze pump head construction, 1 inch BSP ports, IEC 71 motor adaptor arrangement, and nitrile seal elastomers remain consistent across the model options.
- 17937-0001: Material Neoprene. This option is for water-based pumping duties and has a liquid temperature range of 4°C to 80°C for the impeller material.
- 17937-0003: Material Nitrile. This option is for duties where water may be contaminated by oil or diesel and has a liquid temperature range of 10°C to 90°C for the impeller material.
Compatibility and fit
The 22870 Series pump head is built around a motor-mounted layout and uses the motor bearings, so it should be matched to the correct IEC 71 D80 frame motor arrangement before installation. The front mounting layout uses four 7 mm holes on a 100 mm pitch circle, and the head length is 138 mm.
Because the connections are 1 inch BSP internal thread, confirm the vessel’s pipework, hose tails, valves, and service access before replacing an existing head or planning a new installation. This is especially important in engine rooms and machinery spaces where hose bend radius and cover removal clearance can affect future impeller service.
Installation and service
Flexible impeller pumps need clean installation practice: avoid running dry longer than necessary, check for air leaks on the suction side, and keep the inlet path clear of restrictions that can damage impeller blades. The pump should not be started at the extreme ends of the stated temperature range because impeller damage may occur.
This pump head is a practical match for boatbuilders, refit yards, and owners maintaining motor-driven transfer or circulation systems where the 22870 Series footprint, port size, and motor frame compatibility are already part of the installation.
Use and safety notes
This pump head must not be used for gasoline, solvents, thinners, or other flammable liquids. Install suitable guarding around exposed pulleys and belts where the motor drive arrangement leaves moving parts accessible.
