Spaghetti seals are used as gaskets for oil pans, rocker covers, and flanges with sealing grooves to stop oil splashing. They resemble "spaghetti" because of how small their cross-sectional areas are in relation to their lengths. Rubber is typically molded into spaghetti seals to achieve the desired compressibility and shape.

An engine sealing assembly spaghetti seal has a stiffening portion attached to an elastomeric element. The elastomeric element and the stiffening component should fit together. Utilizing the stiffening member, the spaghetti seal can be placed quickly and efficiently into a narrow groove made in an engine part.
