Evinrude, Johnson and Gale Outboard Motors STATOR 4 AMP (173-4821) fits 1993 - 2001 9.9, 10, 15 hp 4 Stroke and 1993 - 2006 9.9, 15, 25, 35 hp 2 Cylinder Engines.

Inside the engine, the casing is the stator, a wire coil. A magnet on a shaft spins within the stator, producing alternating current (AC). This current travels along a wire with a reasonably thick gauge. And then go through the case to the rectifier/regulator, which converts it to DC power at a constant output. Any impurity build-up on the stator winding insulation motor operation is the primary cause of electrical tracking failures.
