Overview
The Perko 1091 is a surface mount lock for boat hatches, lockers, cabinets, and access panels on smooth or carpeted surfaces. It installs through a 2-1/2 inch diameter hole, uses a 3 inch face plate, and fits mounting surfaces from 1/8 inch to 3/4 inch thick.
This lock is built around a polymer body with a T-handle and stainless steel stem. The handle drops down flush in the open or closed position through 180 degrees of rotation, helping keep the deck, cockpit, cabin, or storage area cleaner and less likely to snag gear.
A gasket is used for smooth surface applications, while the toothed back helps grip carpeted surfaces. The lock cylinder is protected by a rubber seal and boot under the T-handle to help reduce water intrusion in normal marine use.
Key features
- Surface mount lock for smooth fiberglass, painted, or carpeted boat surfaces.
- Installs in a 2-1/2 inch diameter hole with a 3 inch face plate.
- Fits mounting surfaces from 1/8 inch to 3/4 inch thick.
- Polymer body with chrome plated zinc alloy, black polymer, or white polymer T-handle options depending on the selected variant.
- Stainless steel stem for a latch point exposed to marine moisture and vibration.
- T-handle sits flush in the open or closed position, except when an offset cam bar is positioned upward.
- Locking configuration includes two keys.
- OEM bulk packaging is suited for builders, refit yards, and multi-hatch replacement jobs.
Variants
The range varies by body color, handle color, and adjustment cam bar style or reach. Body colors include ivory, black, and white. Handle colors include chrome, black, and white, depending on the body color selected.
The shared 1091 lock format keeps the same basic surface-mount installation, 2-1/2 inch mounting hole, 3 inch face plate, and 1/8 inch to 3/4 inch mounting surface range across the listed configurations. The cam bar selection is the key fit detail, since it affects how the lock reaches the receiving edge or strike area behind the panel.
Installation and fit
Before drilling, confirm that the panel has enough flat area for the 3 inch face plate and enough clearance behind the surface for the selected cam bar to rotate. This is especially important on molded hatch lids, cockpit lockers, tackle storage, and cabin panels where liners or wiring may sit close behind the mounting surface.
The gasket side is used when the lock is mounted on a smooth surface. For carpeted locker lids or carpeted panels, the toothed back helps the body stay seated against the fabric instead of sliding as the handle is turned.
Use cases on board
This lock is a practical match for production boat builds, refits, and grouped replacements where several lockers or access panels need the same latch style. It works well for storage compartments, under-seat lockers, cockpit access panels, cabin cabinetry, and non-pressurized hatch locations where a flush T-handle is easier to live with than a protruding pull.
Maintenance and care
Rinse away salt and grit during regular washdowns, especially around the handle, lock cylinder, and cam area. Keep the keys clean and avoid forcing the T-handle if the cam is binding against the receiving surface, since a small adjustment behind the panel is usually the better fix.
