Overview

The Raymarine E70344 is a Quantum Q24W 18" solid-state CHIRP pulse compression radar dome with Wi-Fi connectivity and a 10 m power cable included. It is built for boaters who want radar target awareness without pulling a separate radar data cable through the vessel, making it a practical fit for hardtops, radar arches, pilothouse roofs, and mast-mounted installations where cable routing is tight.

This radome supports 12 V dc and 24 V dc systems, with an operating range of 10.8 V dc to 31.2 V dc. The housing measures 541.0 mm in diameter by 209.5 mm high, weighs 5.6 kg, and carries an IPX6 waterproof rating for exposed marine mounting. Power draw is low for a radar, with 17 W maximum in transmit mode, 7 W in standby, and 2 W in sleep mode when connected by Wi-Fi.

The Quantum Q24W uses an X-band solid-state transmitter with CHIRP pulse compression to help show small targets, navigation marks, shorelines, rain cells, and other returns at short and longer ranges. Range scales run from 1/16 nautical mile up to 24 nautical miles, with an 18 ft minimum range for close-in detail around docks, moorings, and busy waterways.

Installation and setup

The Wi-Fi radar connection keeps the data side of the installation simpler than a traditional scanner cable run, but the radome still needs a proper power connection from the vessel electrical system. The included 10 m cable gives installers enough reach for many helm-to-roof or helm-to-arch layouts, while the small cable diameter helps when passing through tight spaces and cable glands.

Mount the radome with a clear view around the vessel and as high as practical for better line-of-sight performance. On sailboats, a mast mount can place the scanner above deck clutter, while powerboats often use a hardtop, radar arch, or pedestal mount. The unit should be mounted above normal head height where possible and away from locations where crew can come into contact with the rotating scanner area inside the dome.

Compatibility and fit

This model is the Wi-Fi only version of the Quantum Q24W, so it is intended for Raymarine systems that can receive Quantum radar over Wi-Fi. It is a good match for refits where avoiding a new radar data cable is a major advantage, especially when upgrading from older equipment or working with crowded cable runs.

The radome uses a compact 18" class footprint and weighs 12.35 lb, which makes it manageable for smaller cruisers, fishing boats, and sailing yachts that need radar without the size and weight of an open array. Its 541.0 mm diameter should still be checked against the planned mount, nearby antennas, running lights, rigging, and overhead clearances before installation.
