Overview
The Hella Marine 980820102 is a EuroLED 115 recessed LED downlight that runs on 10 to 33V DC and produces warm white light at 3000K behind a white bezel. Power draw stays under 4.5W, which makes it a practical swap for older 20W incandescent cabin lights when you are trying to reduce load on the house bank.
This light fits a 90mm cutout and needs only 22mm of recess depth, so it works well in headliners and panels where space is tight. The outside diameter is 115mm with the plastic rim, and the lamp is completely sealed for use in damp marine areas.
It comes pre-wired with 500mm of twin-core marine cable and connects directly to 12V or 24V systems without a remote driver.
Key features
- Multivolt input: 10 to 33V DC for 12V and 24V systems
- Warm white output (3000K) for a softer cabin feel compared with cool white lighting
- Low draw: under 4.5W (less than 0.37A at 12V, less than 0.18A at 24V)
- Recess fit: 90mm cutout with a shallow 22mm mounting depth
- 115mm overall diameter with the white plastic rim
- Pre-wired 500mm twin-core marine cable (red positive, black negative)
- PWM dimmable (10 to 100%) with a compatible PWM dimmer
- UV resistant enhanced impact acrylic lens and UV resistant plastic rim
Compatibility and fit
This is a good match for overhead mounting in cabins, saloons, companionways, heads, and covered cockpits where you want recessed lighting with a clean trim. If you are laying out multiple lights, the screw pattern uses a 100mm pitch circle, which can help when checking clearances behind panels and beams.
Installation and wiring
Cut a 90mm hole, seat the lamp, and secure it with three screws before the trim conceals the fasteners. Connect red to positive and black to negative on a switched DC circuit. Reverse polarity will not damage the light, but it will not illuminate until the wiring is corrected.
Protect the circuit with a fuse rated at 5A maximum, and seal connections the same way you would any lighting circuit on a boat, with soldered joins where appropriate and adhesive-lined heat shrink to keep moisture out.
Dimming and onboard lighting control
The lamp supports PWM type dimming from 10 to 100%. When dimming, use a PWM dimmer that is intended for DC LED lighting so the light stays stable across typical voltage swings on board.
Use on board
Warm white works especially well in living spaces where you want a relaxed look at night without the harsher feel of cool white lighting. It is a solid fit for owners upgrading older incandescent downlights who want lower current draw while keeping a familiar, comfortable light color.
