Overview

The Raymarine E70476 is a Class B AIS transceiver with a built-in VHF antenna splitter for adding AIS transmit and receive capability to a boat's navigation system. It uses 5 W SOTDMA AIS performance, works from 9.6 V dc to 31.2 V dc on 12 V or 24 V systems, and carries IPX6 and IPX7 waterproof ratings for marine installation spaces where spray, humidity, and vibration are part of daily use.

The AIS700 lets compatible chartplotters and multifunction displays show nearby AIS targets while also broadcasting your vessel information to other AIS-equipped traffic. The built-in splitter allows the unit to share the boat's VHF antenna, which helps keep the installation cleaner when adding a dedicated AIS antenna is not practical.

Installation and setup

Mount the unit below decks or in a protected equipment space with access to the status LEDs and room for cable routing. The supplied GNSS antenna should be placed with a clear view of the sky and kept away from radar beams, other antennas, and high-interference equipment; it can be surface mounted or pole mounted on a suitable 1 inch 14 TPI thread.

Power wiring requires a 3 A inline fuse or thermal breaker on the positive supply, and the waterproof fuse holder and fuse are not included with the kit. The grounding lug must be connected with the supplied grounding strap to the vessel battery negative terminal, so this is worth planning before final cable runs are made.

Electrical and system integration

For Raymarine systems, the included DeviceNet to SeaTalkng adaptor cable brings AIS data onto a SeaTalkng or NMEA 2000 backbone. NMEA 0183 is available for mixed electronics installations, and Micro-B USB supports PC setup and diagnostics, including vessel data configuration before use.

Use cases on board

This transceiver is a good match for cruising boats, fishing boats, sailboats, and small commercial vessels that need AIS target awareness without adding a second VHF antenna. Silent Mode can be controlled in software or by hardware switch wiring when the vessel needs to receive AIS targets while temporarily stopping its own AIS transmissions.
