A zinc anode is a sacrificial anode used in cathodic protection to prevent corrosion. It's also a galvanic anode, similar to the other galvanic anodes made of aluminum or magnesium. The protective capabilities of a zinc anode are due to its negative reduction potential, which is even lower than the metal it is protecting. Oxidants that corrode metals will oxidize the zinc anode instead of the shielded metal structure, preventing corrosion of the structure. These materials are known as sacrificial anodes because they leak electrons, allowing the anode to slowly corrode in place of the more negatively charged metal in use.
Key Features:
Because zinc is a highly active metal that may be sacrificed, it is an excellent candidate for a sacrificial anode.
This engine anode is for Volvo Penta marine engine models D19, D21, D27, D29, D30, D31, D32, D40, D41, D42, 2001, 2002, and 2003, and is compatible with oil coolers.
