Oil seals, also known as shaft seals, are radial lip-type seals used to keep lubricants on rotating, reciprocating, or oscillating shaft equipment. The rotating shaft is the most common application. Oil seals are essential because they prevent corrosive moisture from forming and contain abrasives that limit the harmful effects of accessing the machine while it is in operation, and they aid ball bearings by ensuring their lubricants do not run out due to spilling in a specific area. The sealing element, the metal case, and the spring are the three main components of an oil seal.
