Overview
The Hella Marine 959900201 is a NaviLED PRO port navigation light with a red lens, a black shroud, and 3 nautical mile visibility for the port side of your vessel. It runs on Multivolt 9-33V DC and draws less than 2W (0.17A at 12V, 0.09A at 24V), so it fits both 12V and 24V nav light circuits without a converter.
The lamp is IP67 rated and fully sealed, with a high impact, UV resistant acrylic housing and lens. A 2.5 m tinned marine cable is already attached for clean routing back to your switch panel, and the electronics include spike protection to +500 volts plus reverse polarity protection to -500 volts.
It carries marine approvals including IMO COLREG 72, USCG, ABYC C-5, and Wheelmark (MED). Use it as part of the correct navigation light set for your vessel, paired with the matching starboard and stern or masthead lights required by your rules and operating area.
Key features
- Port (red) sidelight with a 112.5 degree sector and 3 nautical mile visibility
- Multivolt 9-33V DC input for 12V and 24V systems
- Low draw under 2W (0.17A at 12V, 0.09A at 24V)
- IP67 sealed housing with high impact, UV resistant acrylic lens and shroud
- Pre-wired with 2.5 m of tinned marine cable
- Spike protected to +500 volts and reverse polarity protected to -500 volts
Compatibility and fit
This is a vertical surface-mount port light, intended for installation on the port side with the lens facing forward and the housing mounted level so the cut-off stays where it should. The 3 NM rating is commonly specified when the rules call for higher-range sidelights, including many vessels over 50 m.
Confirm you are replacing a port (red) lamp and not a starboard (green) unit. The black shroud is also worth matching against your existing fittings if you are updating one side at a time.
Installation and wiring
Choose a mounting spot with a clear view across the required sector and keep it out of shadow lines from bow rails, rub rails, or deck hardware. Seal the fasteners and cable entry properly so spray and washdowns do not track water into the structure.
Connect the two-core lead into your navigation light circuit using tinned connectors and adhesive-lined heat-shrink. The unit is polarity protected, but consistent wiring makes troubleshooting faster later, especially when multiple navigation lights share a switch panel.
On-board use notes
This light is a practical fit for workboats, patrol craft, and cruising boats that rack up real night hours and want to stop dealing with bulb changes. It is also a straightforward upgrade from incandescent port lights when you want lower draw on the house bank without changing your system voltage.
Maintenance and care
The sealed housing means there are no serviceable bulbs. Rinse salt film off the lens as part of routine washdowns and avoid harsh solvents that can haze acrylic. If you are painting nearby, mask the lens so overspray does not dull the optical surfaces.
