Overview
The Hella Marine 998542001 is a recessed twin-bulb halogen floodlight that throws a wide flood beam for working light on deck, in the cockpit, or under spreaders.
It runs on 12V DC and uses two 55W H3 bulbs (110W total), drawing about 9.2A at full output. The front face is about 187 x 107 mm (7.36 x 4.21 in) with a 32 mm (1.26 in) profile, and the lamp body swivels through about 115 degrees so you can aim the beam after installation.
The housing is white, fiber-reinforced plastic with a glass diffuser protected by a raised rim, and it carries an IP54 rating for dust and splashing water.
Key features
- Recessed (flush) mount format that keeps snag points down on hardtops, masts, and deck structures
- Twin FF double-reflector optics with a glass diffuser for a wide work-light pattern
- 12V load: 2 x 55W H3 halogen (110W total), about 9.2A draw
- Swivels up to 115 degrees after mounting to put light where you actually need it
- IP54 protection for exposed mounting where spray and washdown splash are expected
- Pre-wired 250 mm connection lead for straightforward wiring inside the mounting space
- 316 stainless holder and fasteners for better corrosion resistance around salt spray
What's included
- Deck floodlight assembly with pre-wired 250 mm connection lead
- 2 x 12V / 55W H3 halogen bulbs
Compatibility and fit
This light is for 12V DC systems. Plan the circuit for roughly a 9 amp load, and size the wire and fuse to match the run length and your boat's electrical standards.
Because it is recessed, check the available cavity behind the mounting surface and confirm you have room to route the short lead to a dry junction point. The light outlet is 145 x 83 mm, so placement and aiming matter if you want to keep glare out of the helm.
Installation and setup
Mount it on a flat section of structure that stays solid under vibration. Seal the cutout and fasteners to protect cored panels, and keep splices in a sheltered area using tinned wire and heat-shrink connectors.
Once powered, aim the lamp through its swivel range, then re-check clearances. Halogen lamps run hot, so keep the back of the unit away from wiring bundles and anything that can soften with heat.
Use on board
This is a good match for boats that want a warm halogen work light for handling lines, loading gear, or lighting a cockpit while fishing at night. It also fits spreader and hardtop installs when a broad wash of light is more useful than a tight spot.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt off the lens, keep the glass clean for best output, and replace bulbs as a matched pair when output starts to drop. Let the lamp cool before touching the glass or rinsing with cold water.
