Overview
The TACO Marine V12-0342 is a flexible vinyl rub rail insert for boats that need a clean black insert sized at 5/8 inch by 5/16 inch. It fits into the matching rub rail profile to cover fasteners and add a cushioned surface along the rail, helping the hull edge handle everyday contact with docks, pilings, and fenders.
This insert is used as part of a rub rail system rather than as a stand-alone rail. It is a practical replacement when the existing insert is cracked, faded, missing, or no longer seated properly in the rail channel. The flexible vinyl construction makes it suitable for curved rail runs, while the black finish gives the rub rail a clean finished line.
Key features
- 5/8 inch by 5/16 inch flexible vinyl insert for compatible rub rail channels.
- Black finish for a simple, low-profile look along the hull or deck edge.
- Covers rub rail fasteners for a cleaner finished installation.
- Adds a cushioned insert surface that helps with normal contact during docking and close-quarters handling.
- Available in 50 foot and 250 foot lengths to suit repair work, partial replacement, or longer rail runs.
- Pairs with compatible TACO Marine rub rail profiles, including the A11-0342 aluminum rub rail profile.
Variants
This product is offered in two length configurations with the same black color and the same 5/8 inch by 5/16 inch insert size.
The length is the practical difference between the variants. Shorter lengths are useful for targeted replacement or smaller boats, while longer coils help reduce joints on larger rub rail projects.
- V12-0342BKA50-1: 50 feet. This length works well for repair sections, smaller boats, or installations where only part of the rub rail insert needs to be replaced.
- V12-0342BKA250: 250 feet. This longer length is better suited to full rub rail insert replacement or shop use where continuous material helps keep seams to a minimum.
Installation and fit
Confirm the existing rub rail channel and insert profile before ordering. The important fit points are the insert size, the rail profile, and the length needed to complete the run without coming up short around corners, transoms, or bow sections.
For replacement work, removing a small section of the old insert and comparing its shape and dimensions to the 5/8 inch by 5/16 inch profile is the safest way to check fit. Warm, flexible material is easier to work into the channel, especially around tight curves and older rail sections.
Use cases on board
This insert is a good match for boat owners, yards, and refit shops refreshing an existing rub rail system without replacing the whole rail. It suits fishing boats, runabouts, cruisers, and other vessels where the rub rail sees regular contact during docking, trailering, rafting, or time alongside pilings.
Maintenance and care
Rinse the insert with fresh water after saltwater use and clean it with mild boat soap when washing the hull. Avoid harsh solvents that can attack vinyl or leave the surface looking uneven. During routine cleaning, check that the insert remains seated in the rail channel, especially near ends, corners, and areas that take frequent dock contact.
