Overview
The TACO Marine V12-0317 is a flexible vinyl rub rail insert used to cover rub rail fasteners and add a cushioning surface along the hull. It fits TACO flexible rub rail applications that use this 15/16 inch x 3/8 inch insert profile and is supplied in 50 ft lengths for replacement work, restoration projects, or fresh rub rail installations.
This insert is made from soft PVC, which helps absorb everyday contact from docks, pilings, and other low-speed impacts while keeping the rub rail face clean. It is a practical choice when the existing insert is cracked, faded, missing, or no longer seated properly in the rail channel.
Key features
- Flexible vinyl insert for compatible TACO flexible rub rail profiles.
- 15/16 inch x 3/8 inch profile for matching the correct rub rail channel before installation.
- 50 ft length works well for many small to mid-size boat rub rail replacement jobs.
- Soft PVC construction adds a cushion layer over the rub rail fasteners.
- Available in Black and Arctic White to match or contrast with the boat's existing rail and hull finish.
- Made in the USA and backed by a 5-year limited warranty.
Variants
This product is offered in two color configurations. Both variants share the same V12-0317 flexible vinyl insert profile and 50 ft length.
The color is the main difference between the variants, so matching the existing rail, hull stripe, or deck trim is the key decision point.
- V12-0317BKA50-1: Black. This option gives the rub rail a darker finished line and works well where the existing insert or surrounding trim is black.
- V12-0317WHA50-1: Arctic White. This option keeps the rub rail face lighter and is a better visual match for many white hulls, decks, and topside trims.
Installation and fit
Before ordering, compare the insert profile with the existing rub rail channel rather than relying only on boat brand or model year. The 15/16 inch x 3/8 inch profile needs to match the rail opening so the insert can seat correctly and stay in place after installation.
During installation, the insert should not be stretched. Stretching can cause the vinyl to pull back later, especially after sun exposure and normal movement on the hull. Warming the insert and working it evenly into the channel helps with handling, particularly on curves and around the bow.
Use on board
This insert is most useful for boats with flexible rub rail systems that see regular dockside contact, trailer loading, raft-ups, or tight marina slips. It refreshes the appearance of the rail while covering exposed fasteners and adding a replaceable surface where minor bumps are most likely to happen.
It is a good match for owners, yards, and riggers replacing an aged insert without changing the full rub rail system, as long as the existing rail accepts the V12-0317 profile.
