This Jabsco impeller is offered in two material configurations. Both variants share the same Size 270 profile, 9-blade layout, 3-3/4 in diameter, 3-1/2 in depth, 1 in shaft diameter, spline drive, and brass insert.
The difference between the variants is the impeller compound. Material choice matters because the pump liquid and any oil or fuel exposure affect service life and suitability.
- 6760-0001: Neoprene. This is the standard material choice for fresh water and salt water pumping where only limited oil or diesel exposure is expected.
- 6760-0003: Nitrile. This version is used where the pumped liquid or operating environment includes oil or fuel contact.
Compatibility and fit
Fit should be confirmed against the existing impeller or pump documentation before installation. The key checks are the outside diameter, impeller depth, shaft diameter, number of blades, spline-drive connection, insert material, and compound type.
This is not a universal part selected by boat length or engine size alone. Two pumps can look similar from the outside but use different impeller depths, shaft drives, or materials, so matching the old impeller dimensions is the safest way to avoid poor priming, cover binding, or reduced water flow.
Installation and maintenance
Flexible impellers depend on the pumped liquid for lubrication. Before fitting the new impeller, inspect the pump chamber, cover plate, gasket surface, and cam area for scoring or wear that could shorten impeller life.
Lubricate the impeller with a product suitable for the pump and fluid system, then install it with the vanes folded in the direction of normal rotation. After installation, check for leaks at the cover and confirm water flow shortly after startup. Keeping a spare impeller on board is practical for cruising boats, fishing boats, and workboats that rely on a raw-water pump for engine cooling or onboard transfer duties.
