This impeller is used inside the pump head to move water and other compatible fluids through a flexible impeller chamber. The 22890 Series pump head is a serviceable bronze unit with a brass end cover, carbon and ceramic mechanical seal, and a 316 stainless steel shaft extension, making correct impeller fit especially important when restoring flow after wear, vane damage, or routine service.

The material is the key difference between variants. The physical fit is tied to the 270 size impeller profile, while the compound should match the fluid being moved and the operating conditions of the pump.

• 17936-0001: Material: Neoprene. Neoprene is used for engine cooling and fresh or salt water transfer duties where oil or diesel exposure is limited.
• 17936-0003: Material: Nitrile. Nitrile is used for bilge and transfer duties where the water may contain oil or diesel contamination.

Compatibility and fit

Use this impeller only where the pump head calls for the 22890 Series 270 size impeller. Before ordering, compare the existing impeller material, blade count, shaft connection, and key dimensions against the pump or service record, especially if the pump has been rebuilt or replaced in the past.

Installation and service notes

When the pump head is open, inspect the end cover, gasket, wearplate, cam, and seal area before installing the new impeller. Wear in these surrounding parts can reduce pump performance even when the impeller is new.

The pump should not be started at the extreme ends of the impeller temperature range, since impeller damage may occur. Do not use this pump head or impeller assembly for gasoline, solvents, thinners, or other flammable liquids.
