Overview

The Lumitec 101009 is a Capri LED flush-mount cockpit flood light that puts out 530 lumens of 6500 K white light while running on 10 to 30 V DC systems. It suits both 12 V and 24 V boats and works well anywhere you want a low-profile deck light, such as cockpits, aft decks, hardtops, and spreader areas.

Power draw is 12 W, with typical current of 900 mA at 12 V DC and 450 mA at 24 V DC, which makes it a practical swap for 55 W halogen floods when you want similar cockpit lighting without the heavy load on the battery. The face measures 4.94 in (12.56 cm) wide, 1.75 in (4.44 cm) high, and the body depth is 1.57 in (3.98 cm), so it helps to confirm clearance behind the mounting surface for the housing and wiring.

The sealed construction is IP67 compliant and the powder-coated die-cast aluminum housing is built to handle washdowns, spray, and vibration. Operating temperature range is -35 to 55 C.

Installation and setup

This is a flush-mount light, so installation involves cutting an opening in the mounting surface and securing the fixture so it cannot loosen over time. Before cutting, confirm you have room for the 1.57 in body depth plus wiring bend radius, and plan a dry routing path for the cable to the switch or breaker panel.

On cored fiberglass, seal the cutout and fastener penetrations so water cannot migrate into the core. Bedding the flange and tightening fasteners evenly helps keep the seal intact in a cockpit that gets regular spray and vibration.

Electrical and system integration

Wire it to a switched 10 to 30 V DC circuit using tinned marine conductors and properly crimped heat-shrink terminals. Because current draw is under 1 A on 12 V systems, voltage drop is usually easy to manage, but longer runs to hardtops, arches, or spreaders still benefit from appropriately sized wire and clean terminations.
