Overview
The Simrad NSX is a chartplotter and fishfinder display built around a SolarMAX IPS multi-touch screen for everyday navigation and sonar use at the helm. It runs on 12 V DC power (10 to 17 V input) and carries IPx6 and IPx7 ratings for open-cockpit installs where spray and washdowns are part of normal boating.
Across the range you can choose a 7-inch (1024 x 600), 9-inch (1280 x 720), or 12-inch (1280 x 800) display with screen brightness rated above 1200 nits. An internal GPS with 10 Hz updates keeps tracking and position changes snappy when you are running inshore or making short course corrections around structure.
NSX uses the NEON operating system and includes C-MAP DISCOVER X cartography, with support for C-MAP REVEAL X. Storage and updates are handled through a MicroSD slot and a USB port, and the unit is ready to join a networked helm through NMEA 2000, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi.
Key features
- Screen size options: 7-inch, 9-inch, or 12-inch SolarMAX IPS multi-touch display (brightness rated >1200 nits)
- 12 V DC input (10 to 17 V) with IPx6 and IPx7 environmental rating for exposed helms
- Internal 10 Hz GPS receiver (32 channels) for fast position updates and tracking
- Connectivity for system expansion: NMEA 2000 Micro-C (1 LEN), Ethernet (1 port), Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), and Bluetooth 4.0
- Sonar connection via 9-pin Xsonic port supporting single-channel CHIRP (50/200 kHz) plus HDI and Active Imaging sources
- C-MAP DISCOVER X included, with support for C-MAP REVEAL X charts
- IP camera video support, plus MicroSD and USB for updates, logging, and data transfer
Variants
NSX configurations vary by screen size (7-inch, 9-inch, or 12-inch), transducer package, and whether a radar dome is bundled.
Transducer options include display-only (no transducer), an HDI transducer package, or an Active Imaging 3-in-1 transducer package. Some configurations include a HALO20+ radar dome for a combined chartplotter, sonar, and radar setup.

Installation and setup
Mounting is flexible for most helms: bracket mounting hardware is included, and the unit also supports panel or flush mounting when you want a cleaner dash face. Plan your helm layout with the chosen screen size in mind, since overall dimensions and cutout requirements change between the 7-inch, 9-inch, and 12-inch displays.
Recommended fuse rating depends on screen size: 2A for the 7-inch model and 3A for the 9-inch and 12-inch models. On boats that see vibration and wet lockers, keep power connections supported, protected, and routed away from ignition noise sources where possible.
Networking and system integration
For a networked helm, NSX includes a Micro-C NMEA 2000 port (1 LEN) plus Ethernet and Wi-Fi. That combination covers common setups such as adding radar, autopilot control, engine and tank data via gateways, and sharing data with other displays or onboard devices depending on how your system is built.
If you already have AIS on the boat, NSX can receive AIS data over NMEA 2000. Autopilot compatibility includes NAC-1, NAC-2, NAC-3, and NAC-D systems when integrated through the appropriate network connections.
Sonar and fishfinding on board
The 9-pin Xsonic sonar port supports single-channel CHIRP (50/200 kHz) and works with HDI and Active Imaging sources, which is useful if you are upgrading an existing transducer or planning a through-hull install later. Display-only configurations are a straightforward choice when you already have an Xsonic-style transducer or an external sonar module to keep.
Active Imaging 3-in-1 transducer bundles add CHIRP, SideScan, and DownScan, while HDI bundles cover CHIRP and DownScan. When DownScan is in the mix, FishReveal can help separate fish targets from structure without forcing you to constantly bounce between sonar views.
Charts, routes, and data management
NSX supports C-MAP X-Generation charts, including DISCOVER X and REVEAL X, and it comes with C-MAP DISCOVER X. For trip planning and day-to-day fishing runs, it stores up to 6000 waypoints, 500 routes (up to 100 route points per route), and 50 tracks (up to 12,000 track points).
MicroSD and USB storage make it easy to handle updates and move user data between devices. That is handy when you want to back up waypoints before a long run or keep separate track logs for different seasons.
Who this is a good match for
NSX fits boaters who want one display that can cover navigation and sonar now, then grow into a fuller helm later through NMEA 2000, Ethernet, and radar or autopilot integration. It also makes sense for refits where you need a bright screen that remains readable in direct sun and through polarized sunglasses.
