Overview
The Garmin 010-12845-00 is a speed and cadence sensor bundle for bicycles that broadcasts ride data over ANT+ and Bluetooth Low Energy. Both sensors use user-replaceable CR2032 (3 V) batteries with an expected battery life of about 12 months at 1 hour per day, and each sensor is rated IEC 60529 IPX7 for incidental water exposure up to 1 m for up to 30 minutes.
The speed sensor straps to the hub of either wheel and can store up to 300 hours of activity data. The cadence sensor straps to a crank arm and reports pedal strokes per minute. Setup is magnet-free, and once paired, your compatible device reconnects automatically when the sensor is awake and within range.
For onboard fitness setups, this bundle works well when you keep a bike on board for shore rides or have a stationary bike in a cockpit enclosure or cabin gym. The IPX7 rating and -20 to 60 C operating range help in real-world conditions, but it is still best treated like electronics: keep it out of standing water and rinse off salt spray before it dries.
Key features
- Broadcasts speed, distance, and cadence using ANT+ and Bluetooth Low Energy (2.4 GHz).
- Speed sensor mounts to the hub of either wheel and supports speed and distance tracking even when a head unit is not used for the ride.
- Cadence sensor mounts to a crank arm and measures pedal strokes per minute.
- Pairs with up to two Bluetooth devices and any number of ANT+ devices.
- User-replaceable CR2032 (3 V) batteries with approximately 12 months of life at 1 hour per day.
- Water rating IEC 60529 IPX7 (incidental exposure up to 1 m for up to 30 minutes).
- Operating temperature range: -20 to 60 C; speed sensor storage: up to 300 hours of activity data.
Installation and setup
Mounting is strap-based: the speed sensor wraps around the wheel hub, and the cadence sensor uses an elastic band sized to hold securely on the crank arm (installed on the non-drive side). After mounting, rotate the wheel and crank to confirm clearance, then do a short test ride and re-check that the bands are seated correctly and not rubbing.
Pairing is done over ANT+ or Bluetooth. Keep the compatible device within 3 m (10 ft.) of the sensor during pairing and stay about 10 m (33 ft.) away from other wireless sensors to reduce interference. Waking a sensor takes two revolutions of the wheel or crank arm.
Compatibility and fit
This bundle is meant for bikes and indoor training equipment that can receive ANT+ or Bluetooth Low Energy sensor data. The speed sensor can pair with the Garmin Connect app to record and upload rides that include speed and distance without using another Garmin device, while the cadence sensor cannot pair with Garmin Connect as a standalone sensor.
Fit is straightforward on most bicycles: the speed sensor fits typical front or rear hubs, and the cadence sensor straps to most crank arms. If your bike has tight clearance around the hub or crank, do a slow rotation by hand after mounting to confirm nothing contacts the sensor or strap.
Maintenance and care
Battery changes are quick, but take care with the sealing parts. When you open the battery door, keep the O-ring gasket in place and make sure the cover sits flush when closed. After riding in wet conditions or storing the bike near salt air, wipe the sensor bodies and straps with fresh water and let everything dry before putting it back into a locker or gear bag.
