Overview
The Hella Marine 959073001 is a white LED recess strip courtesy lamp for 12V DC systems, built with a wide rim for a tidy flush finish. It draws under 2.0W (under 0.16A at 12V), so it can stay on for dockside or night moves without putting much load on the house bank.
This strip format is a practical fit for steps, toe-kicks, companionways, lockers, and other spots where you want light close to the deck. The lamp comes pre-wired with 2.5 m of cable, which helps when the nearest bus bar or switch panel is not right behind the mounting surface.

Installation and fit
Plan the cut-out (217 mm x 20 mm) and confirm you have room behind the mounting surface for the lamp body (about 29 mm). The wide rim covers the edge of the cut-out, then the lamp secures with two screws on 237.5 mm centres. Avoid over-tightening the mounting screws into the lens area.
Electrical and wiring notes
This lamp is polarity conscious. Connect the cable with the red stripe to positive (+) and the black cable to negative (-). Protect the circuit with a fuse rated at 2A maximum.
Light output reduces as input voltage is lowered, which works well with analogue dimming approaches that drop DC input. For 12V installations, avoid continuous supply voltage above 16V.
On-board use
This style of strip lamp suits boats that need low-glare courtesy lighting along steps, under-gunwale storage, or around the cockpit and cabin where you want visibility without flooding the space with light. It is a good match for owners running long wire routes who still want a clean recessed install and sealed protection for wet areas.
