Overview
The B&G VULCAN is a touchscreen multifunction display family that puts charts, sailing data, and sonar viewing on one helm screen, with bundle options that change the screen size, the chart package, and whether radar is included.
It runs on 12 V DC power (10 to 17 V DC) and includes an internal 10 Hz GPS receiver. For typical cockpit installs it is rated IPx7 and IPx6, and it is built to operate from -15 C to +55 C.
These packages are listed without a transducer, so depth and sonar pages require a compatible transducer to be installed and configured.
Key features
- 12 V DC input (10 to 17 V DC) with a recommended 3 A fuse and reverse-polarity protection
- Waterproof rating IPx7 and IPx6 for exposed helms and regular washdowns
- Internal 10 Hz GPS receiver with WAAS, MSAS, EGNOS, and GLONASS support
- NMEA 2000 networking via a Micro-C port for sharing data with instruments, autopilot systems, AIS, and VHF
- Built-in Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) for wireless updates and supported remote viewing on mobile devices
- MicroSD support for charts, updates, and backups (7 in units use one slot; 9 in units use two slots)
- Sonar transducer connector for depth and sonar functions when a compatible transducer is installed
- Radar/ethernet connection on 7 in and 9 in units for compatible radar integration
Variants
This product is offered in multiple bundle configurations.
What changes between part numbers is the screen size, the chart package (preloaded basemap or C-MAP DISCOVER), and whether a radar bundle is included. MicroSD slot count varies by screen size.
- 000-13214-001: Screen Size 9 in; Map Bundle Preloaded Basemap; Radar Bundle None. This keeps the system display-only, leaving radar and detailed cartography as add-ons through the appropriate ports and chart media.
- 000-13214-009: Screen Size 9 in; Map Bundle C-MAP DISCOVER; Radar Bundle None. This configuration includes C-MAP DISCOVER as the chart package, which is useful when you want detailed cartography ready to run from day one.
- 000-15620-001: Screen Size 9 in; Map Bundle Preloaded Basemap; Radar Bundle HALO20. This adds a HALO20 radar to the package for radar overlay and dedicated radar views at the helm.
- 000-14082-001: Screen Size 7 in; Map Bundle Preloaded Basemap; Radar Bundle None. The smaller screen footprint suits tighter pedestals and smaller consoles while keeping the same core networking approach for instruments and sensors.
Installation and setup
Plan the mounting location around cable routing and everyday access. The unit can be bracket-mounted or panel-mounted; for a panel mount, seat the gasket cleanly so the cutout stays sealed, and leave enough clearance behind the unit for connectors and the rear microSD door.
Power the display from a 12 V DC supply that stays within 10 to 17 V DC and protect the circuit with a 3 A fuse close to the source. Boats with a 24 V house bank typically use a DC-DC converter to supply a stable 12 V feed at the helm.
Compatibility and system integration
On the NMEA 2000 backbone, the display can pull in wind, speed, heading, depth, and GPS data and show it on dedicated instrument-style pages or overlaid on charts. When paired with compatible onboard gear, it can also bring common integrations like AIS targets on the chart and autopilot control pages into the same screen workflow.
For radar and sonar, use the dedicated connectors and route cables away from high-current wiring and VHF coax where practical, which helps keep interference down and keeps the system easier to troubleshoot later.
Use on board
This setup makes sense for sailors who want a touch MFD at the wheel that can handle navigation, double as a large instrument display, and grow into radar or more networked instrumentation over time.
