Overview
The TACO Marine V12-0338 is a flexible black vinyl rub rail insert sized 1 inch high by 1/2 inch wide for finishing and protecting compatible boat rub rail systems. It fits into the rub rail channel to cover fasteners, clean up the hull edge, and add a cushioning contact point for normal bumps against docks, pilings, and other close-quarters surfaces.
This insert is a practical replacement piece for restoring a worn, faded, cracked, or missing rub rail insert without replacing the entire rub rail extrusion. Its flexible vinyl construction helps it follow the curve of the hull, while the black finish gives the rail a neat, finished look on boats that use this insert profile.
Key features
- Flexible vinyl insert for compatible rub rail channels that accept a 1 inch by 1/2 inch profile.
- Black finish helps refresh the appearance of the hull edge and hide exposed rub rail fasteners.
- Soft PVC insert helps cushion everyday contact from docking, rafting, and close maneuvers around pilings.
- Available in 50-foot and 70-foot lengths to match different hull sizes or replacement needs.
- Useful for rub rail maintenance on powerboats and other vessels where the existing insert profile matches the V12-0338 shape.
Variants
This product is offered in multiple length configurations. Both variants are black flexible vinyl inserts with the same 1 inch by 1/2 inch profile.
The main difference is total length, which affects how much continuous rub rail coverage is available for the installation or repair.
- V12-0338BKA50-1: Length 50 feet. This length works for smaller replacement runs, partial rub rail repairs, or boats that do not require the longer coil.
- V12-0338BKA70-1: Length 70 feet. This length gives more material for longer hull sections or installations where fewer breaks in the insert are preferred.
Installation and fit
Before ordering, measure the existing insert and confirm that the rub rail channel accepts a 1 inch high by 1/2 inch wide insert. Matching the profile matters more than matching the boat length alone, since rub rail systems can vary by builder, model year, and rail extrusion.
During replacement, the old insert is typically removed to expose the fasteners and channel. Cleaning the channel before installation helps the new vinyl seat more evenly, especially on older rails with dirt, salt, wax, or adhesive residue in the groove.
Use cases on board
This insert is a good match for boat owners repairing rub rail sections after dock rash, refreshing the look of an older hull, or replacing an insert that has hardened from sun and salt exposure. It is most useful when the existing rub rail extrusion is still serviceable and only the vinyl insert needs attention.
For best results, compare the original insert profile to the V12-0338 shape and allow enough length for corners, trimming, and any installation waste around tight curves.
