Overview
The Garmin 010-10851-10 is an automotive navigation kit that lets you mount and power a compatible Garmin handheld GPS in a vehicle for turn-by-turn style driving use.
It combines a windshield suction cup mount with a dashboard disc option, plus a vehicle power lead that supplies 5 V power from a 12 V accessory socket. For boat owners, it’s a practical way to keep the same handheld you use on board powered up and visible while you’re driving to the ramp, the yard, or a remote marina.
Key features
- Suction cup mount for windshield viewing, with a dashboard disc option when glass mounting is not a good fit
- Vehicle power cable that provides 5 V power from a 12 V accessory socket to keep a compatible handheld GPS running on long drives
- Made for select Garmin handheld and outdoor GPS units that use this snap-in style vehicle mount
- Useful for trailering and launch days where you want the same routes, waypoints, and tracks available in the tow vehicle
- Quick to remove and stow when you arrive at the dock or ramp
What’s included
- Suction cup mount
- 5 V vehicle power cable
- Dashboard disc
Compatibility and fit
This kit is intended for specific Garmin handheld GPS families, including GPSMAP 62 and GPSMAP 64 series units, eTrex 10/20/30 series, and several Oregon, Dakota, and Colorado models. Compatibility depends on the exact handheld and its mount interface, so match your device model before ordering.
Installation and setup
For windshield mounting, start with clean glass so the suction cup can hold consistently through vibration and temperature swings. For dash mounting, place the dashboard disc on a clean, smooth surface where it won’t interfere with airbags, visibility, or helm controls, then use it as the suction cup landing spot.
Route the power cable so it won’t snag the handheld when you remove it, and keep enough slack to adjust the viewing angle without pulling on the connector.
Electrical and system integration
The included vehicle lead is meant for a standard 12 V accessory socket and supplies 5 V power to the handheld. On a boat, this style of plug-in power is generally a better match for temporary use in a cabin or in a tow vehicle than for a permanent helm installation. For a fixed onboard setup, a dedicated marine mount and properly protected 12 V distribution are usually the cleaner approach.
Use cases on board
This kit suits boaters who rely on a Garmin handheld as a backup navigator or tender GPS and want the same unit mounted and powered while driving between home, ramps, and marinas. It also makes sense for crews who travel to regattas or fishing spots and want their handheld ready to go without draining its internal battery before they even launch.
