Overview
This Attwood Marine stainless steel bow eye is a twin-shank U-bolt style fitting for securing a boat at the bow, with plated nuts and washers included for installation. The range covers two common hardware sizes: a 3/8"-16 x 2-7/16" configuration with a 5/16" eye diameter, and a larger 1/2"-13 x 3-1/4" configuration with a 7/16" eye diameter.
The twin-shank layout helps reduce twisting once the bow eye is mounted through the hull or transom structure. It is suited for replacement work on small boats, tenders, runabouts, fishing boats, and trailers where the existing bow eye dimensions and backing arrangement match the selected size.
Key features
- Stainless steel bow eye for exposed boat hardware locations where moisture and spray are part of normal use.
- Twin-shank U-bolt form helps resist rotation when the fitting is loaded from a bow line, winch strap, or transom-mounted tow point.
- Available in two thread sizes and shank lengths to match different hull and mounting thickness requirements.
- Plated nuts and washers are included, so the main fastening hardware needed for installation is supplied with the bow eye.
- Can be used as a transom-mounted ski tow when installed in a suitable structure and within the rated capacity of the selected size.
- Not intended for lifting the boat.
Variants
This product is offered in two configurations for different mounting and load requirements.
The variants differ by eye diameter, thread size, and shank length. Both are stainless steel twin-shank bow eyes supplied with plated nuts and washers.
- 3396-3: Dimension A 5/16"-Dia.; Dimension B 3/8"-16 x 2-7/16". This smaller configuration is a practical match for lighter-duty replacement installations where the existing hole pattern and backing area suit the shorter 3/8"-16 threaded shanks.
- 3392-3: Dimension A 7/16"-Dia.; Dimension B 1/2"-13 x 3-1/4". This larger configuration suits installations that call for a larger eye diameter and longer 1/2"-13 threaded shanks through the mounting surface.
Installation and fit
Before replacing an existing bow eye, compare the thread size, shank length, eye diameter, hole spacing, and backing area on the boat. A bow eye should mount through solid structure with proper washers or backing support on the inside, especially where it will see winch strap loads at the ramp or steady tension from dock lines.
For transom use as a tow point, the surrounding structure and backing must be suitable for the load. The fitting itself should not be used for lifting the boat, and it should be inspected regularly for movement, bent hardware, cracked gelcoat, or corrosion around the mounting holes.
Use on board
This bow eye is a good fit for boat owners replacing worn or undersized bow hardware, restoring a small craft, or matching an existing Attwood-style U-bolt installation. It also works for builders and service yards that need a straightforward stainless steel bow eye with supplied nuts and washers rather than a decorative-only fitting.
