Overview
The Attwood Marine Universal Motor Flusher is a range of outboard and I/O engine flushers that connects to a standard garden hose to run fresh water through the engine cooling intake area after use.
These flushers are made for lower units with side water intakes. Molded cups sit over the intake openings, while the clamping yoke holds the flusher in place during flushing. Regular flushing is especially useful after saltwater running, sandy ramps, silty water, or long dockside periods, where deposits can build up inside the cooling system.
The range includes round, rectangular, and dual water feed configurations, with plastic and metal body options. That gives boat owners a simple way to match the flusher style to the engine lower unit and the type of maintenance routine they use at home, at the marina, or after trailering.
Key features
- Connects to a standard garden hose for fresh-water flushing after saltwater, sand, silt, or alkali exposure.
- Molded cups deliver water to the side intakes on the lower unit, helping clear the cooling system path during routine maintenance.
- Self-adjusting clamping yoke helps the cups seat over side intake openings on many domestic and imported outboard and I/O engines.
- Available in round, rectangular, and dual water feed versions to suit different lower-unit intake layouts.
- Plastic and metal body choices are available across the range, depending on the selected configuration.
- Useful for trailered boats, fishing boats, tenders, and seasonal layup routines where flushing after use helps reduce buildup inside the cooling passages.
Variants
This product is offered in multiple flusher configurations for different lower-unit layouts and maintenance preferences.
The main differences across the variants are the cup shape or feed style and the body material. All variants are engine flushers that connect to a garden hose and are used for flushing side water intakes on compatible outboard or I/O lower units.
- 9372-2: Round flusher with plastic body. This version uses the common round cup style and is suited to straightforward fresh-water flushing on compatible side-intake lower units.
- 16205-2: Round flusher with metal body. This keeps the round cup layout while using a metal body for boat owners who prefer that construction style.
- 16207-2: Rectangular motor flusher with metal body. The rectangular cup shape gives a different contact area for lower units where rectangular muffs sit more naturally over the intake area.
- 16208-7: Universal dual water feed flusher with metal body. The dual water feed layout supplies water through both cups, which can help maintain more even water delivery across both sides during flushing.
Installation and use
Place the cups over the engine water intake openings on the lower unit, connect the garden hose, and confirm that the flusher is seated firmly before running water through the system. The hose should not be opened to full flow, since excessive pressure is not needed for this type of flushing tool.
Before starting the engine for a flush, confirm that the engine manufacturer allows flushing with muffs and follow the engine manual for water flow, run time, and gear position. The cups need to stay aligned over the intakes throughout the flush so the cooling system receives water continuously.
Compatibility and fit
These flushers are intended for many domestic and imported outboard and I/O engines with side water intakes on the lower unit. Fit depends on the intake shape, intake location, and available clearance around the gearcase, so the selected round, rectangular, or dual-feed style should match the engine layout.
This is a practical maintenance item for boaters who run in saltwater, brackish water, shallow sandy areas, or silty rivers. It is also helpful before storage, after trailering, and during routine checks where the cooling passages need a fresh-water rinse.
