Overview
The Hella Marine 004208001 is a chrome plated brass deck gland for running a cable through a deck, hardtop, or cabin roof while keeping the entry point waterproof.
It is sized for a single cable up to 8 mm in diameter and keeps a low profile on deck, with an 18 mm overall height and a 32 mm base diameter. Use it anywhere you need a clean, sealed pass-through for wiring to spreader lights, deck lights, antennas, or other top-side accessories.
Key features
- Waterproof cable entry for a single cable up to 8 mm diameter
- Chrome plated brass body for a bright finish that matches common deck hardware
- Low profile footprint: 18 mm high with a 32 mm base diameter
- Two-screw flange style mount for securing the gland to the surface
- Works with any onboard voltage since it is a mechanical pass-through, not an electrical connector
Compatibility and fit
Measure the outside diameter of the cable jacket, including any chafe sleeve or heat-shrink that needs to pass through the gland. If a molded plug or large connector is already on the cable, plan the routing so the largest section does not need to pass through the deck entry.
Check the 32 mm base diameter against the available flat mounting area, especially near curved cabin tops, handrails, or light brackets.
Installation and setup
Pick a location where water can shed away from the penetration and leave enough slack below deck to form a drip loop. Drill the cable pass-through and the mounting holes, then bed the flange with a marine sealant suited to your deck material and fasteners.
After the cable is in place, snug the gland so it seals around the cable without crushing the jacket. On exposed runs, add chafe protection where the cable transitions into the deck and secure the cable below deck so vibration does not work the fitting loose over time.
Use on board
This style of deck gland is a good match for clean top-side wiring on sailboats and powerboats where you want a neat cable entry for exterior lights and accessories. It also works well on cockpit coamings, hardtops, radar arches, and mast bases when keeping water out of the deck core and headliner matters.
