Overview
This Attwood Marine battery box hold-down strap is a replacement strap and hold-down option for securing a marine battery box in place on board. It is available in 40 in and 54 in strap lengths, with kit and strap-only packages, so the fit depends on the battery box size and whether the mounting hardware is already installed.
The strap is made from woven polypropylene and uses a firm-grip buckle. The material resists battery acid, which matters in battery compartments where spills, fumes, and routine service can be hard on ordinary webbing.
Key features
- Woven polypropylene strap construction helps resist battery acid in the battery compartment.
- Firm-grip buckle helps keep the battery box secured while the boat is underway.
- Available in 40 in and 54 in strap lengths for different Attwood battery box hold-down applications.
- Kit versions include the mounting pieces for a new hold-down setup, while strap-only versions suit replacement work when the existing hardware is still in place.
- Useful for securing battery boxes in consoles, lockers, bilge-adjacent compartments, and other protected battery locations where vibration and boat motion can work loose gear over time.
Variants
This Attwood Marine strap is offered in multiple configurations based on strap length and package type.
The strap length changes between 40 in and 54 in versions. The package type changes between a kit with mounting hardware and a strap-only replacement. The woven polypropylene strap and firm-grip buckle style remain the same across the range.
- 9013-3: 40 in strap length, kit package. This version pairs the 40 in strap with the mounting pieces needed for a fresh hold-down setup.
- 9014-3: 40 in strap length, strap-only package. This version replaces the strap when the footman clamps and screws are already usable.
- 9013A3: 54 in strap length, kit package. This longer kit suits a larger strap path and includes the hardware for mounting the hold-down points.
- 9014A3: 54 in strap length, strap-only package. This longer replacement strap works where the existing hardware remains in place and only the webbing needs renewal.
Installation and fit
Fit is determined by the battery box, the strap route, and the location of the hold-down points rather than by 12V or 24V system voltage. Before ordering, measure the path over the battery box lid and down to the mounting points, then compare that route with the 40 in or 54 in strap length.
When installing a kit version, mount the footman clamps on a solid surface that can handle the load from boat movement, trailering, and battery weight. The strap should sit flat over the box, pull the lid and box down evenly, and avoid rubbing against cable exits or sharp edges.
Use on board
A secure battery box helps reduce movement around terminals, cables, and nearby equipment. This strap is a practical match for boat owners refreshing an older battery box installation, replacing acid-damaged webbing, or setting up a battery box in a cockpit locker, console, or service compartment.
After installation, check the buckle tension during routine battery service. Replacing the strap when the webbing is cut, stiff, or heavily stained is a small maintenance step that helps keep the battery box secured during normal running and trailering.
