Overview
The Garmin GRF 10 extension cable is a length add-on for GRF 10 rudder feedback sensor installations that need more reach to a GHP 12 or GHP 20 autopilot system. It is offered in 5 m (16.4 ft) and 15 m (49.2 ft) lengths to help cover the distance from the steering compartment to where the autopilot components are mounted.
On many boats, the rudder feedback sensor lives aft near the quadrant or tiller arm, while the autopilot computer is placed in a drier, more serviceable spot forward. This cable is for closing that gap without relocating hardware, while keeping the rudder feedback signal path intact.
Key features
- Extends the cable run for a GRF 10 rudder feedback sensor connected to a GHP 12 or GHP 20 autopilot system
- Available lengths: 5 m (16.4 ft) or 15 m (49.2 ft) to suit short and long routing paths
- Useful when the sensor is mounted aft and the autopilot components are mounted farther forward
- Helps maintain cleaner routing through bulkheads and conduits while leaving room for service loops
Variants
This product is offered in multiple lengths so you can match the run from the steering gear area to your autopilot system location.
Length is what changes between versions; the intended use remains the same for GRF 10 rudder feedback sensor installs paired with GHP 12 or GHP 20 systems.
- 010-11829-02: Length 15 m. This suits longer routes on larger boats or installs where the autopilot components are positioned well forward of the rudder compartment.
- 010-11829-01: Length 5 m. This fits tighter installs where the autopilot components are relatively close to the steering gear area.
Compatibility and fit
Use this cable only for Garmin GRF 10 rudder feedback sensor installations that connect into a GHP 12 or GHP 20 autopilot system. It is not a general network drop cable and it is not meant for extending unrelated Garmin power or data harnesses.
Installation and routing
Plan the route before ordering by measuring the actual path the cable will follow, not the straight-line distance. Allow extra length for bends, bulkhead pass-throughs, and a small service loop so the cable is not pulled tight when the boat flexes under way.
As with any sensor cabling on a boat, support the run at regular intervals, protect it where it passes through fiberglass or metal, and keep it separated from high-current wiring where possible to reduce the chance of interference.
Use cases on board
This extension cable is a good match when your rudder feedback sensor is mounted aft and your autopilot components are mounted in a console, helm station, or electronics locker farther forward. It also helps when you need a cleaner route around steering linkages, hatches, and access panels without putting strain on the connection.
Maintenance and care
Periodically check the cable run in the steering compartment for chafe, crushed sections, or loose supports. If the connection is in an area that sees spray or washdowns, keep it supported and positioned to avoid standing water, and address corrosion early if you see it.
