Overview
This Attwood Marine chrome-plated zinc cleat pair is a surface-mount boat cleat set for dock lines, light mooring lines, fenders, and general tie-down points on small boats. The cleats are made from ZAMAK zinc with a chrome-plated finish, giving the deck or gunwale a clean hardware look while keeping the footprint practical for everyday use.
The range includes 4-1/2 in and 6 in lengths, so it can be matched to the line size, available mounting space, and duty expected at the installation point. These are open-base cleats, which makes fastener access straightforward during installation and leaves the mounting hardware visible for inspection.
Key features
- ZAMAK zinc construction with a chrome-plated finish for a polished appearance on visible deck, cockpit, or gunwale hardware.
- Open-base cleat shape allows direct access to the fasteners during installation and routine checks.
- Sold as a pair, making it suitable for matching port and starboard installations or replacing two cleats at the same location.
- Available in 4-1/2 in and 6 in lengths to suit different line loads, mounting areas, and boat layouts.
- Useful for fender lines, dock lines, and general-purpose tie points where compact deck hardware is needed.
Variants
This Attwood Marine cleat pair is offered in multiple lengths. The construction, chrome-plated zinc finish, and open-base style are consistent across the listed variants.
The length is the main selection point. A shorter cleat works well where space is tight or the line is smaller, while the longer cleat gives more horn length for easier line handling and larger cleat hitches.
- 6244-6: Length 4-1/2 in. This compact size fits smaller mounting areas and works well for lighter line handling, fender lines, and auxiliary tie points.
- 6245-6: Length 6 in. This size gives more room for wrapping line and is a better match where the cleat will be handled more often for docking or mooring tasks.
Installation and fit
Mount the cleats on a solid backing surface that can take the load from the line, not only the pull on the fasteners. On fiberglass decks, gunwales, or transoms, backing plates or large washers help spread the load and reduce stress around the holes.
Before drilling, check the underside of the mounting area for wiring, liners, flotation foam, or limited hand access. The open-base shape makes installation simple, but the cleat still needs properly sized marine fasteners and bedding around the holes to help keep water out of the core or laminate.
Use cases on board
These cleats suit small powerboats, tenders, fishing boats, runabouts, and utility craft where a clean chrome finish is preferred over plastic or plain metal hardware. Common locations include the bow, stern corners, cockpit coamings, side decks, and fender tie-off points.
They are a practical match for freshwater boats and light-duty deck hardware upgrades where appearance, compact size, and straightforward installation matter. For high-load mooring points, offshore use, or harsh saltwater exposure, confirm that the cleat size, base material, fasteners, and backing method are appropriate for the vessel and the expected loads.
