Overview
The Jabsco Par-Max HD3 is a 12 VDC freshwater delivery pump for marine water pressure systems, with 3 GPM (11.3 LPM) open flow and pressure switch options at 40 PSI (2.8 BAR) or 60 PSI (4.1 BAR). It is built for boats that need on-demand freshwater pressure at fixtures such as galleys, heads, cockpit showers, or other freshwater outlets.
This pump uses a 4-chamber diaphragm layout with quick connect ports, an integrated sealed pressure switch, and an internal bypass to help smooth flow and reduce short cycling. The self-priming capability is rated up to 8 ft (2.4 m) dry prime, and the pump can run dry without damage, both useful details when tanks run low or plumbing routes are not perfectly straight.
The 9 VDC to 13.6 VDC voltage range suits standard 12V boat electrical systems. With an IPX6 rating, ISO 8846 ignition protection, a coated motor casing, and rubber mounting feet, it fits marine installations where washdowns, vibration, and tight machinery spaces are part of everyday use.
Key features
- 12 VDC freshwater pressure pump with a 9 VDC to 13.6 VDC operating range for standard boat electrical systems.
- 3 GPM (11.3 LPM) open flow supports typical small to mid-size freshwater circuits with multiple onboard outlets.
- Integrated sealed pressure switch turns the pump on and off as fixtures are opened and closed.
- Internal bypass helps smooth water delivery and reduces pump cycling in pressure-demand systems.
- Self-primes up to 8 ft (2.4 m) dry prime, which helps with below-deck tanks and longer suction runs.
- Run-dry capable construction adds protection when the freshwater tank runs low or air enters the line.
- IPX6 rating, CE and RCM compliance, and ISO 8846 ignition protection support use in marine spaces.
- Quick connect ports, 12 inch (305 mm) 14 AWG leads, and stripped wire ends make installation straightforward.
- 15 amp fuse requirement keeps the electrical setup clear during panel or breaker planning.
Variants
This Par-Max HD3 pump is offered in two pressure switch configurations for different freshwater pressure preferences on board.
Both variants share the 12 VDC motor platform, 3 GPM open flow rating, quick connect port layout, internal bypass, IPX6 rating, self-priming capability, run-dry capability, and intermittent duty rating. The main difference is the pressure switch off setting, along with the related current draw at that pressure.
- Q301J-115S-3A has a pressure switch off setting of 40 PSI (2.8 BAR). This configuration uses up to 8 amps at 40 PSI and is a practical match for freshwater systems where moderate pressure is preferred.
- Q301J-118S-3A has a pressure switch off setting of 60 PSI (4.1 BAR). This configuration uses up to 9 amps at 60 PSI and suits systems where a higher shutoff pressure is needed.
Installation and setup
The pump is intended for freshwater pressure systems and should be wired into a protected 12V DC circuit with a 15 amp fuse. The stripped 14 AWG leads give the installer flexibility for heat-shrink butt connectors, terminal blocks, or a properly protected panel connection.
The quick connect port layout and included 1/2 inch (13 mm) straight hosebarb fittings simplify hose routing. Leave room around the pump for port clips, hose bends, and wire movement, especially in lockers or service compartments where access is limited.
Compatibility and fit
The freshwater operating temperature range is 32 F to 140 F (0 C to 60 C), with a maximum inlet pressure of 30 PSI (2.1 BAR). It is suited to freshwater delivery circuits rather than bilge, fuel, oil, or raw-water transfer applications.
For best service access, mount the pump where the strainer can be inspected and cleaned without removing nearby equipment. The rubber mounting feet help reduce transmitted vibration, which matters in cabins, under settees, and other areas close to living spaces.
Use on board
This pump is a good fit for owners upgrading a compact freshwater system or replacing an older pressure pump in a cruising boat, fishing boat, or day boat. The 40 PSI version keeps pressure moderate, while the 60 PSI version gives a higher shutoff point for systems that need more pressure at the fixture.
The internal bypass and diaphragm design make it well suited to intermittent use at sinks, showers, and similar freshwater outlets. An accumulator tank can still be useful in some layouts, but the bypass helps the pump behave more smoothly in many typical installations.
