Overview
The Jabsco HotShot HD5 is a heavy duty 12 VDC marine washdown pump range with 5 GPM open flow and a 70 PSI pressure switch cut-off for rinsing decks, cockpits, anchor gear, fish boxes, and other working areas on board.
This 5 chamber diaphragm pump uses quick connect ports, an integrated pressure switch for on-demand operation, and a noise dampening baseplate with rubber feet to help control vibration when mounted in a locker, utility space, or near the deck wash outlet. It is self-priming up to 8 ft dry prime and can run dry without damage, which matters when the pickup briefly draws air during real boat use.
The HD5 is rated for 12 VDC systems with a 9 VDC to 13.6 VDC operating range, 16 amp maximum current draw, and a 20 amp recommended fuse. The pump carries an IPX6 rating and ISO 8846 ignition protection, making it suitable for marine washdown installations where spray, vibration, and protected electrical spaces are part of the job.
Key features
- 5 GPM open flow and 70 PSI cut-off pressure give the pump enough output for deck washdown, anchor rinsing, and general clean-up after fishing or cruising.
- 12 VDC operation fits common onboard DC systems, with 14 AWG leads and stripped wire ends for hardwired installation.
- Integrated pressure switch starts and stops the pump as the trigger nozzle is used, so the washdown line does not need a separate manual pump switch at the hose.
- 5 chamber diaphragm construction, quick connect ports, and a TENV permanent magnet motor support steady washdown service in a compact onboard footprint.
- Self-priming up to 8 ft dry prime helps with flexible mounting locations above the water source or tank pickup.
- IPX6 ingress protection and ISO 8846 ignition protection suit marine spaces where spray and ignition safety are important considerations.
- Glass-filled polypropylene upper housing, cast aluminum lower housing, EPDM valves and seals, stainless steel pump head fasteners, and a coated steel motor casing help the unit handle damp marine service.
Variants
The HotShot HD5 is offered here in two configurations built around the same 12 VDC, 5 GPM, 70 PSI pump platform.
The configurations differ by package type, trigger nozzle style, and hose coil inclusion. Both versions include the pump, quick connect port fittings, a 90 degree quick connect 40 mesh strainer, trigger nozzle adapters, and installation and operation documentation.
- P501J-119N-3A: Heavy Duty Washdown Pump with Standard Trigger Nozzle and no hose coil included. This configuration suits installations where an existing hose setup is already on board or where the hose length and routing will be selected separately.
- P501J-119N-4A: Heavy Duty Washdown Kit with Deluxe Trigger Nozzle and a 25 ft standard hose coil. This kit adds the hose coil for a more complete washdown station and includes a deluxe trigger nozzle with built-in flow adjustment.
Installation and fit
The pump body measures about 9.6 inches long, 5.0 inches wide, and 4.7 inches high, with a 2.0 inch by 3.6 inch mounting hole pattern. Extra clearance should be left around the ports, hose fittings, clips, and wiring so the connections are not forced into tight bends.
Included port fittings cover 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch straight hosebarb connections plus a 3/4 inch U.S. garden hose thread adapter, which gives the installer options when matching the pump to the washdown plumbing already planned for the boat.
Electrical and system integration
This pump is for 12 VDC use, not 24 VDC systems. It draws up to 16 amps at 70 PSI and calls for a 20 amp fuse that is not included. The duty cycle is intermittent, so it is intended for normal washdown use rather than continuous long-run pumping.
The integrated pressure switch turns the pump off at the cut-off pressure and brings it back on when the nozzle is opened. That makes it a practical match for deck wash outlets where the hose may be used in short bursts while cleaning fish residue, mud from the anchor rode, or salt from deck hardware.
Materials and marine environment
The wetted path uses glass-filled polypropylene, polypropylene, Santoprene, and EPDM components, while the lower housing is cast aluminum and the motor casing uses cast aluminum with coated steel. The baseplate uses nylon with rubber feet to help isolate vibration from the mounting surface.
Fluid and ambient temperature range is 32 degrees F to 140 degrees F, or 0 degrees C to 60 degrees C. The IPX6 rating supports use around wash spray, but the pump should still be installed in a protected location with sound wiring practices and access for service.
Use cases on board
The HotShot HD5 fits boats that need a stronger washdown setup for fishing decks, bow rollers, cockpits, transoms, and general saltwater clean-up. It is a sensible choice for owners replacing an older Jabsco washdown pump or adding a dedicated deck wash system to a 12 VDC vessel.
