Overview
The Simrad 000-11674-001 is a ForwardScan forward-looking sonar transducer kit that shows a 2D view of the bottom ahead of your boat, so you can judge shoaling water before you get there. It operates at 180 kHz and typically looks 4 to 5 times your present depth ahead, with up to 8 times depth in good conditions.
ForwardScan data can be shown as a simple forward view and as an overlay on your chart, with Bottom Colour Tracking and a shallow depth alarm you can set around your draft. A built-in water temperature sensor adds a temperature readout alongside depth.
This kit mounts through the hull using a stainless steel sleeve with a removable insert and a self-closing valve, so the transducer can be serviced or removed while the boat is in the water when needed.
Key features
- 180 kHz transducer frequency that helps reduce interference when a 200 kHz depth or fishfinding transducer is also installed
- Forward-looking range up to 8 times current depth, with 4 to 5 times depth as a typical view
- Bottom Colour Tracking and chart overlay support, including Heading Line View for color-coded depth ahead
- Built-in water temperature sensor
- Stainless steel through-hull sleeve with self-closing valve so the insert can be removed and reinstalled on the water
- Supplied fairing block and sleeve accommodate up to 29 mm hull thickness at 12 degrees deadrise, or 19 mm at 20 degrees deadrise
- Connects to the StructureScan HD port on compatible displays or sounder modules
Compatibility and system integration
ForwardScan connects through a StructureScan HD port on a compatible Simrad multifunction display or on a sounder module that supports ForwardScan. This kit is used with Simrad NSS evo2 and NSO evo2 installations where ForwardScan is supported.
Installation and setup
Plan for a through-hull location where water flow stays clean and the transducer remains continuously immersed. For non-metal hulls, installation uses a 51 mm (2 inch) hole; for metal hulls, installation uses a 57 mm (2-1/4 inch) hole. Keep at least 0.6 m (2 feet) of separation from other transducers to reduce cross-talk, and allow internal access to tighten the housing and remove the insert, with a minimum of 280 mm (11 inches) of headroom.
The arrow on the top of the insert must point toward the bow. The fairing block helps match hull deadrise and keep the insert aligned so the forward-looking picture stays accurate when the boat is underway.
Materials and corrosion resistance
The stainless steel housing is compatible with common hull materials. On metal hulls, the housing must be isolated from the hull using the supplied isolation parts to help prevent electrolytic corrosion, and the housing should not be installed on vessels with a positive ground system.
Maintenance and care
Avoid solvent-based cleaners on the transducer face. In saltwater, use water-based antifouling paint on the exposed parts as part of normal bottom maintenance.
Use on board
This setup suits boats that spend time in thin water, approach unfamiliar anchorages, or run channels where the bottom can change. The forward view gives you extra time to slow down or alter course when depth trends upward ahead.
