Overview
The Simrad Cruise is a GPS chartplotter and fishfinder combo that comes with C-MAP US Coastal cartography and an 83/200 kHz transom-mount skimmer transducer. Across the range, the display resolution is 800x480, with screen brightness rated at 800 nits on the 5-inch and 1000 nits on the 7-inch and 9-inch. It runs on a 12V system (10 to 17 V DC) and carries an IPX6 and IPX7 waterproof rating for spray and washdowns.
At the helm, Cruise keeps things simple with a rotary dial, directional cursor, and keypad controls that make it easy to pan the chart, build a quick route, and switch between chart, sonar, and split-screen views. You can keep key data on screen while you run, including depth, position, and battery voltage.
This is a self-contained navigation and depth setup with an internal GPS receiver (1 Hz) and an integrated sonar connection. It is not a network display, so plan on using it as a standalone unit rather than tying it into NMEA 2000 or other onboard networks.
Key features
- C-MAP US Coastal cartography included, with a worldwide basemap also available on the unit
- 1 microSD slot for chart upgrades and data (supports up to 32GB; larger cards require NTFS formatting)
- Internal GPS receiver (1 Hz) with WAAS, MSAS, and EGNOS support
- Integrated sonar with an 8-pin push-fit connector, paired with an 83/200 kHz transom-mount skimmer transducer
- Full-screen or split-screen layouts for chart and sonar
- IPX6 and IPX7 waterproof rating and an operating temperature range of -15C to +55C
- 10 to 17 V DC supply voltage with a recommended 3A fuse
- No NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183 connectivity, and no WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, video, or PC connections
Variants
This Cruise US Coastal combo is offered in multiple screen sizes.
Screen size changes the unit footprint and power draw, and the 5-inch model is rated 800 nits while the 7-inch and 9-inch models are rated 1000 nits. The core platform stays consistent across the range, including 800x480 resolution, 10 to 17 V DC input, IPX6/IPX7 waterproofing, C-MAP US Coastal cartography, and the integrated sonar connection for the included transom transducer.
- 000-14995-001: Screen size 5-inch. A compact option when dash space is tight and you still want clear chart and depth at the helm.
- 000-14996-001: Screen size 7-inch. A middle size that gives more chart area for quick glances while keeping the install footprint reasonable.
- 000-14997-001: Screen size 9-inch. A larger screen that makes split-screen chart and sonar easier to read from a seated or standing helm position.
Installation and setup
Cruise supports bracket or panel mounting, which helps when you are working around a tight wheelhouse layout or an open console. With the bracket installed, overall dimensions are 184.5 mm x 142.3 mm x 117.9 mm for the 5-inch, 263 mm x 145.5 mm x 100 mm for the 7-inch, and 311 mm x 165.8 mm x 92.6 mm for the 9-inch. Leave clearance so the rotary dial and keypad stay easy to reach, and so cables can run without sharp bends behind the unit.
The included transducer is a transom-mount style, so plan for a spot on the transom where it can sit in clean water flow and where the cable can be routed up and away from chafe points. Taking a few minutes to tidy the cable run and seal penetrations pays off fast in a wet, vibrating environment.
Electrical and system integration
Power is 10 to 17 V DC with a recommended 3A fuse, which fits typical 12V boats. Since there is no NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183, Ethernet, or wireless connectivity, integration is straightforward: power, the transducer connection, and your chart card or data card through the microSD slot when needed.
Use on board
This setup is a good match for boats that want uncomplicated coastal charting and dependable depth, such as center consoles, skiffs, bay boats, and small cruisers. It also fits well on a secondary station where you want an independent chart and sonar view without tying into a networked helm.
