Overview
The Hella Marine 2984 is an incandescent port navigation light for 12 V systems with a red lens and 2 nautical mile visibility.
It mounts on a vertical surface and the housing snaps onto its base, so routine bulb access stays simple. The lamp uses a 12 V / 25 W BAY15d bulb (included) and carries an IP55 rating for rain and deck wash.
This style of 2 NM sidelight is commonly fitted on vessels under 20 m (65 ft) that need a port light at the bow or along the forward topsides.
Key features
- Port sidelight with red lens and 2 NM visibility
- 12 V incandescent lamp with a 12 V / 25 W BAY15d bulb included (about 2.1 A draw at 12 V)
- Vertical surface mount format for common bow and cabin-side installations
- Snap-on housing to base for faster access when servicing the bulb
- Cable entry through the base plate with a rubber grommet
- Vented, non-magnetic construction that holds up in saltwater use
- IP55 ingress protection for spray and washdowns
- Approvals: IMO Col Reg 72, USCG, ABYC A-16, Maritime NZ
Variants
This port light is offered with different housing colors while keeping the same basic lamp style and mounting approach.
The difference is the housing color. Both options remain 12 V incandescent port sidelights with a red lens and 2 NM visibility.
- 002984335: Black housing. A quieter look on darker topsides and rails where you want the fixture to visually blend in.
- 002984385: White housing. A clean match on white gelcoat and painted structures without changing wiring or light function.
What’s included
- Port navigation light assembly
- 12 V / 25 W BAY15d bulb
Installation and wiring
Mount the base on a flat vertical surface so the lens faces outboard and the light sits level. Route the supply cable through the base plate and seat the rubber grommet before snapping the housing onto the base.
Because the lamp is rated 25 W on a 12 V circuit, confirm the navigation-light circuit, switch, and wiring are appropriate for the load. Tinned marine wire and sealed connections help in wet lockers, bow areas, and exposed cabin sides.
On-board use and care
The vented housing, vertically hanging bulb, and higher-positioned contacts help reduce corrosion where moisture can linger. The plastic housing and lens resist UV exposure and impacts from normal deck life.
For bulb changes, un-snap the housing from the base and replace with a 12 V / 25 W BAY15d bulb. IP55 is suited to spray and washdowns, but it is not a submersible light, so avoid mounting locations that sit underwater.
