Overview
The Attwood Marine Universal Sprayless Connector is a fuel-line connector family made to reduce fuel spray when connecting or disconnecting pressurized marine fuel hoses during fueling or maintenance.
This system replaces traditional fuel tank fittings and uses integrated check valves that close when the connector is disconnected. The hose male and hose female fittings work with 5/16" and 3/8" fuel lines, while the tank male fitting fits standard 1/4" NPT tank connections and includes pre-applied fuel-grade thread sealant.
It is a practical upgrade for outboard fuel systems where cleaner hose changes, less deck cleanup, and controlled fuel handling matter. The fittings are compatible with ethanol blended fuels and OEM-brand engines, with a high-flow design rated at less than .25kPa restriction at 50 liters per hour.
Key features
- Sprayless connector design helps prevent fuel spray when pressurized fuel hoses are connected or disconnected.
- Integrated check valves close on disconnect to help control fuel flow during fueling and maintenance.
- Hose male and hose female fittings are compatible with both 5/16" and 3/8" fuel lines.
- Tank male fitting fits standard 1/4" NPT fuel tank outlets and uses pre-applied fuel-grade thread sealant.
- High-flow fitting design has less than .25kPa restriction at 50 liters per hour.
- Compatible with ethanol blended fuels and OEM-brand marine engines.
- EPA Certified and CARB Approved for applicable marine fuel system use.
Variants
The Universal Sprayless Connector range is offered in four configurations that cover common hose-end, tank-end, and combined connection needs in a portable or fixed marine fuel system.
The main differences are the connector interface and where the fitting is installed in the fuel line. The sprayless connection function and check-valve behavior are consistent across the male and female connector styles.
- 8838HF6: Hose female connector. This version fits the hose side of the system and works with 5/16" and 3/8" fuel lines.
- 8838HM6: Hose male connector. This version is used where a male hose connection is needed on 5/16" or 3/8" ID fuel hose.
- 8838TM6: Tank male connector. This version fits standard 1/4" NPT fuel tank outlets and includes pre-applied fuel-grade thread sealant for the threaded connection.
- 8838US6: Male and female connector set. This configuration pairs the tank-side male connector with the hose-side female connector for a matched sprayless connection.
Installation and fit
Match the fitting style to the point in the fuel system being updated: hose female or hose male for the fuel hose, tank male for the fuel tank outlet, or the male and female set when both ends of the connection are being replaced together.
For hose installations, confirm that the fuel line is 5/16" or 3/8" before ordering. For tank installations, confirm a standard 1/4" NPT outlet. As with any fuel-system work, install with the system depressurized, check the routing for chafe points, and inspect the connection for leaks before running the engine.
Use cases on board
This connector family is a good match for trailer boats, fishing boats, tenders, and other outboard-powered vessels where portable tanks or serviceable fuel hose connections are handled often. It is especially useful when fuel hoses are disconnected during storage, tank changes, dockside maintenance, or pre-trip checks.
