Overview
The Perko 0170BTW is an LED yellow towing navigation light in a black polymer housing for sail or power-driven vessels under 20 meters, or 65.6 feet, in length. It is a 135 degree towing light with USCG 2 nautical mile visibility, making it suited for boats that need the required yellow towing signal in a compact fixture.
The clear lens keeps the light understated when it is not illuminated, while the LED light source draws less power and runs with low heat compared with standard navigation lights. This series is available for 12 Volt or 24 Volt DC systems, so the voltage should be matched to the vessel electrical system before installation.
Key features
- Yellow towing navigation light with a 135 degree visibility arc for the required towing sector.
- USCG 2 nautical mile certified visibility for vessels under 20 meters in length.
- LED light source uses less than half the energy draw of standard lights and produces low heat during operation.
- Black polymer housing with clear LED lenses when the light is off.
- Available in 12 Volt and 24 Volt versions to match common marine DC electrical systems.
- Overall size is 4-1/8 inches wide, 3-5/8 inches high, and projects 2-1/4 inches from the mounting surface.
- Mounts with #10 screws, useful when checking fit against an existing light location.
Variants
This towing navigation light is offered in two voltage configurations. The visible function, housing style, 135 degree arc, 2 nautical mile rating, and listed overall dimensions remain consistent across the 0170BTW black polymer LED series.
The main difference is electrical: the 12 Volt version is rated at 4.65 watts with amperage under 0.31 amps, while the 24 Volt version is rated at 2.52 watts with amperage under 0.09 amps.
- 0170BTWDP3: Voltage 12 Volt. This version matches boats with a 12 Volt DC lighting circuit and is the common fit for many smaller recreational vessels.
- 0170BTWDP4: Voltage 24 Volt. This version matches vessels with a 24 Volt DC lighting circuit, often found on larger boats or systems with dedicated 24 Volt distribution.
Installation and fit
Before mounting, confirm that the vessel needs a yellow towing light and that the mounting position gives the light an unobstructed 135 degree sector. The fixture projects 2-1/4 inches from the surface, so leave enough clearance around rails, canvas, antennas, and other hardware that could block the beam.
Electrical selection is important because the 12 Volt and 24 Volt versions are separate models. Match the variant to the boat circuit voltage, protect the circuit according to the vessel wiring plan, and use marine wiring practices suitable for vibration, moisture, and service access.
Use on board
This light is a practical match for vessels under 20 meters that require a dedicated yellow towing navigation light and need an LED fixture with black housing for a clean deck or superstructure installation. It is most relevant for towing applications where visibility, correct color, and the proper arc matter more than cabin or courtesy lighting output.
