Overview
The Perko 0170MSN is an LED white stern navigation light with a chrome plated housing for sail or power driven vessels under 20 meters in length. It shows a white stern light through a 135° visibility arc with a 2 nautical mile visible range, which makes it suitable for the aft navigation light position on boats that fall within that size class.
This light uses LED technology, so it draws less current than a standard incandescent navigation light while producing low heat during operation. The chrome finish gives it a clean look for visible transom, cockpit, and aft deck installations where the light housing remains exposed.
Key features
- White stern navigation light for vessels under 20 meters in length.
- 135° visibility arc with a 2 nautical mile visible range for stern light use.
- LED light source with low heat and lower current draw than standard navigation lights.
- Chrome plated housing for an exposed aft mounting location.
- Available in 12 Volt and 24 Volt versions to match the vessel electrical system.
Variants
This Perko LED stern light is offered in two voltage configurations so it can be matched to the boat’s DC electrical system.
The visible light function, chrome housing style, 135° arc, and 2 nautical mile visible range remain consistent across the listed configurations. The voltage is the key difference between the variants.
- 0170MSNDP3: Voltage 12 Volt. This version fits boats with a 12 Volt DC navigation light circuit, which is common on many recreational powerboats and sailboats.
- 0170MSNDP4: Voltage 24 Volt. This version fits vessels wired with a 24 Volt DC navigation light circuit, often found on larger or more complex electrical systems.
Installation and setup
Install this light where the stern sector is visible and not blocked by rails, canvas, dinghies, outboards, antennas, or other equipment. The white stern light needs a clear aft-facing view so the 135° arc can do its job when the boat is underway at night or in restricted visibility.
Match the selected variant to the vessel voltage before wiring it into the navigation light circuit. Cable size should be appropriate for the run length and the boat’s voltage drop limits, especially when the light is installed at the transom or at the aft end of a long cable route.
Use cases on board
This light is a practical match for replacing or upgrading an aft white stern light on boats under 20 meters where LED efficiency and a chrome exterior are preferred. It suits coastal cruising, evening returns to the dock, fishing trips that start before sunrise, and sailboat use where navigation lights need to remain visible while drawing modest power.
Maintenance and care
Keep the lens and housing free of salt, wax, polish residue, and grime so the light output remains clear. Rinse with fresh water after saltwater use and avoid harsh cleaners that can cloud the lens or damage the finish over time.
