Overview
The Perko 0170WSN is a LED white stern navigation light in a white polymer housing for sail or power driven vessels under 20 meters (65.6 ft.) in length. It gives the required white stern light with a 135-degree visibility arc and USCG 2nm certification, with 12 Volt and 24 Volt versions available.
This light works well for a transom, aft coaming, or other vertical centerline mounting point where the stern sector needs to stay visible from behind the boat. The LED version draws under 0.31 amps on 12V systems and under 0.09 amps on 24V systems, which helps reduce load on the navigation-light circuit during night running.
Key features
- White stern navigation light for sail or power driven vessels under 20 meters (65.6 ft.) in length.
- USCG 2nm certified output with a 135-degree visibility arc for the white stern sector.
- LED lens appears clear when the light is off, with white light when powered.
- White polymer housing suits light-color gelcoat, transom areas, and other visible exterior mounting locations.
- Available for 12 Volt or 24 Volt DC systems, with model-specific LED draw of 4.65 watts at 12V or 2.52 watts at 24V.
- Uses #10 mounting screws and measures 3-5/8 in high, 4-1/8 in wide, and 2-1/4 in overall projection.
Variants
The Perko 0170WSN stern light is offered in two voltage configurations so it can match the boat’s DC navigation-light circuit.
The housing style, stern-light function, 135-degree visibility arc, and listed overall dimensions remain the same across these two configurations. The voltage, wattage, and amperage differ by variant.
- 0170WSNDP3: 12 Volt version. This version is for boats using a nominal 12V DC navigation-light circuit and has a listed LED draw of 4.65 watts and under 0.31 amps.
- 0170WSNDP4: 24 Volt version. This version is for boats using a nominal 24V DC navigation-light circuit and has a listed LED draw of 2.52 watts and under 0.09 amps.
Installation and setup
Mount the light vertically on the vessel centerline and high enough that following seas, deck hardware, canvas, or rail gear do not block the stern light. Use round-head or pan-head #10 screws rather than countersunk screws, and leave enough access to remove and clean the lens assembly.
Observe voltage and polarity when connecting the supply leads. Use cable sized to keep total voltage drop below 0.5 volt on a nominal 12V installation or below 1 volt on a nominal 24V installation; 16 AWG is the stated minimum conductor size.
Use cases on board
This light is a practical match for small powerboats, sailboats, fishing boats, and cruisers under 20 meters that need a white LED stern light in a white exterior housing. It is most relevant for owners replacing an older stern fixture or completing a matched set of navigation lights during a refit.
Maintenance and care
Clean the light with fresh water and mild detergent only. After salt spray or a dockside washdown, keeping the lens area free of salt and grime helps the stern sector remain visible and keeps routine checks simple before night operation.
