Overview
The Garmin 010-11828-10 is an 18.5 in flexible VHF antenna made for Garmin dog tracking and training devices.
It is the screw-on whip used on compatible handheld receivers and dog devices, so it is a straightforward replacement when an antenna gets bent, split, or lost. This is not a coax-fed antenna for a fixed-mount marine VHF radio.
Compatible devices include Alpha, Astro, DC 50 Dog Tracking Collar, PRO Trashbreaker, TB 10 Dog Device (PRO Trashbreaker), and TT 10 Dog Device.
Key features
- 18.5 in (47 cm) flexible whip that is easy to carry and less likely to kink from normal handling
- VHF-band antenna intended for Garmin dog tracking and training systems
- Direct replacement style for restoring your setup after an antenna is damaged or missing
- Supports the common Garmin handheld and dog-device family listed in the compatibility section
- Practical spare to keep with your handheld kit for trips where a broken antenna would end the day early
Compatibility and fit
This antenna is meant to thread onto the antenna port used by the compatible Garmin handhelds and dog devices listed above. Before ordering, compare it to the antenna you are replacing and confirm your device family matches, since Garmin uses different antenna styles across product lines.
Installation and setup
Remove the old antenna by hand, then check the antenna port for grit or moisture. Thread the replacement on by hand until it is snug, keeping it straight so the base does not cross-thread. Skip tools and overtightening so the port and antenna base stay in good shape.
Use cases on board
On a boat, this antenna is most often used when you carry an Alpha or Astro handheld for shore trips, beach walks, or tracking dogs around islands and marsh edges. The longer whip clears a life jacket and foul weather gear, but it can still snag on rails and rod holders, so it helps to stow the handheld when moving around the cockpit.
Maintenance and care
If it gets hit with salt spray, rinse it with fresh water and let it dry before stowing. Avoid folding it sharply at the base, and replace it if the outer jacket is split or the antenna no longer stays straight.
