Overview
The Perko 0314 Pilot House Control Searchlight is a manually controlled marine searchlight with an 8 inch chrome plated brass head for pilothouse, wheelhouse, and hardtop installations. This version uses a sealed beam lamp with 500,000 beam candle power, and the range includes 12V, 24V, and 32V configurations to match the vessel’s electrical system.
The lever control lets the operator aim the light from below the mounting surface, which suits enclosed helm stations where a simple mechanical control is preferred over a remote electric control. The head has 380 degrees of horizontal movement and 70 degrees of vertical movement, giving useful coverage for channel markers, buoys, mooring approaches, and deck or dockside work after dark.
The housing uses brass construction with a chrome plated finish, corrosion resistant and splash proof construction, and tin plated electrical contacts and wiring for the marine environment. It is intended for ceiling thickness up to 5 inches, so the mounting location should be checked before ordering.
Key features
- 8 inch sealed beam searchlight head with 500,000 beam candle power across all listed variants.
- Chrome plated brass construction with corrosion resistant and splash proof construction for exposed marine mounting locations.
- Lever action pilothouse control lets the operator handle horizontal and vertical aiming from underneath the light.
- 380 degrees of horizontal movement and 70 degrees of vertical movement for scanning ahead, to the side, or toward nearby docks and markers.
- Manual toggle control can hold a set position or run a continuous back and forth sweep.
- Tin plated electrical contacts and wiring help reduce connection issues in damp marine spaces.
- Fits installations with ceiling thickness up to 5 inches.
- CE and UKCA compliant for vessels that require documented equipment conformity.
Variants
This product is offered in multiple electrical configurations for vessels with different DC systems. All listed variants are 8 inch chrome versions with 500,000 beam candle power.
The voltage and wattage change by configuration, so the correct version should match the boat’s supply voltage and wiring capacity. The 12V model is rated at 250 watts, while the 24V and 32V models are rated at 600 watts.
- 0314C0812V: Voltage 12, Beam Candle Power 500,000, Wattage 250. This configuration fits boats with a 12V DC system and uses a lower wattage rating than the higher voltage versions.
- 0314C0824V: Voltage 24, Beam Candle Power 500,000, Wattage 600. This configuration fits vessels with a 24V DC system, often found on larger cruising boats and commercial-style helm layouts.
- 0314C0832V: Voltage 32, Beam Candle Power 500,000, Wattage 600. This configuration fits vessels that still use a 32V DC electrical system and need the matching searchlight voltage.
Installation and setup
This searchlight is meant to mount above a pilothouse or similar overhead structure, with the control lever operating from below. Before installation, confirm that there is enough clearance for the control assembly, wiring, and lever movement inside the helm area.
The mounting surface must suit the head size, weight, and control layout. The ceiling thickness limit of up to 5 inches is especially important on insulated pilothouse roofs, molded hardtops, and refit installations where liners or core material can add depth.
Compatibility and fit
Match the variant voltage to the vessel’s DC system before connecting power. The 12V, 24V, and 32V versions are not interchangeable without addressing the vessel’s electrical supply and circuit protection requirements.
This light is a good match for boats where the operator wants direct mechanical aiming from the helm rather than a separate remote control pad. It suits pilothouse cruisers, workboats, fishing boats, and other vessels that need a strong forward searchlight for night operation, close-quarters maneuvering, and marker identification.
Maintenance and care
Rinse the exterior with fresh water after saltwater exposure and keep the chrome finish clean to reduce surface buildup. Periodically check the movement of the lever control, the mounting hardware, and the electrical connections, especially after heavy weather, vibration, or extended seasonal use.
