Overview
The Perko Pilot House Control Searchlight is a Figure 0314 Solar-Ray sealed beam searchlight with an 8-inch white head, lever-action pilot house control, and configurations for 12V, 24V, or 32V DC systems. It is built for boats that need a manually controlled searchlight above the pilothouse, wheelhouse, or hardtop, with the control handle operated from below the light.
The 8-inch head uses a sealed beam unit rated at 500,000 beam candle power in the listed configurations, with an approximate 3/4-mile range and a 26-inch overall length. The housing is white powder coated brass, with corrosion resistant, splash proof construction and tin plated electrical contacts and wiring for marine service.
The control layout gives the helm operator 380 degree horizontal movement and 70 degree vertical movement. The handle controls both directions, while the light can be set for continuous back-and-forth sweep or adjusted with manual toggle controls.
Key features
- 8-inch sealed beam searchlight head in a white powder coated brass finish
- 500,000 beam candle power across the listed 12V, 24V, and 32V configurations
- Lever-action pilot house control operated from underneath the mounted light
- 380 degree horizontal movement and 70 degree vertical movement for aiming from the helm area
- Manual toggle controls allow position adjustment or continuous back-and-forth sweep
- Corrosion resistant, splash proof construction for exposed marine locations
- Tin plated electrical contacts and wiring help protect the electrical path in a marine environment
- Fits ceiling thicknesses up to 5 inches
- CE/UKCA compliant
Variants
This searchlight is offered in multiple electrical configurations for vessels with different DC systems.
The variants differ by voltage and wattage. Each listed version uses the 8-inch white head and has 500,000 beam candle power.
- 0314W0812V: 12V, 500,000 beam candle power, 250W. This configuration matches boats with a 12V DC lighting circuit and keeps the lower wattage used by the 12V sealed beam.
- 0314W0824V: 24V, 500,000 beam candle power, 600W. This version fits vessels wired around a 24V DC system and uses the higher wattage 8-inch sealed beam configuration.
- 0314W0832V: 32V, 500,000 beam candle power, 600W. This configuration is for vessels with 32V DC service and should be treated as a 32V system match during installation and service planning.
Installation and setup
This light mounts from above, with the control tube and rod passing through the mounting surface so the handle can be used from inside the pilothouse or overhead area. It suits helm stations where a simple mechanical control is preferred over a remote electric searchlight control.
During installation, the mounting location should allow the desired sweep range and enough clearance below the mounting surface for the handle assembly. Electrical connections should be made to suit the selected voltage version and the vessel wiring layout.
Use on board
This searchlight is a practical match for workboats, cruisers, fishing boats, and pilothouse vessels that need a focused beam for night approaches, buoy spotting, dockside maneuvering, shoreline checks, and deck or foredeck visibility from the helm. The white finish works well on hardtops and pilothouse roofs where a lighter exterior appearance is preferred.
Service notes
The sealed beam format keeps the bulb and reflector together as a serviceable lamp unit. For the 8-inch head, replacement beam selection depends on voltage, and the 32V configuration uses the matching resistor arrangement with the appropriate sealed beam setup.
