Overview
The Hella Marine 358111711 is a compact MST6E LED lighthead that runs on 12V and 24V DC systems and outputs white warning light in 21 selectable patterns, including steady-on.
It mounts as a low-profile lighthead with self-adhesive backing, and the 5.1 in (130 mm) length helps when space is limited on a hardtop, radar arch, equipment box, or transom area. The build is weatherproof and vibration resistant, and it carries SAE J595 Class 1 approval for warning-light applications.
Key features
- 12V/24V DC input for common onboard electrical systems
- 21 user-selectable flash patterns, including steady-on
- Self-adhesive backing for clean surface mounting
- 5.1 in (130 mm) lighthead length for tight mounting locations
- Frosted lens that creates a glowing-body effect for better noticeability
- Weatherproof and vibration-resistant construction for exposed installs
- SAE J595 Class 1 approval for warning-light use
Installation and setup
Pick a flat mounting spot where the light is easy to see and the wiring can be routed without chafe. For adhesive mounting to hold up long-term, clean and degrease the surface thoroughly, then press and hold per the tape’s requirements before putting the boat back into heavy spray or washdowns.
Wire it to a switched 12V or 24V DC feed using marine-grade connections and heat-shrink sealing, and protect the circuit with an appropriately sized fuse close to the power source. If you are installing multiple lightheads, the grouping function supports coordinated flashing, so it is worth planning your switching and control layout before you start pulling wire.
Compatibility and fit
This lighthead is intended for DC systems found on most boats, including mixed fleets where some vessels are 12V and others are 24V. It is a warning-light style output and should not be treated as a replacement for required navigation lights; keep your COLREG and USCG-required running lights separate and compliant for your vessel class.
Use cases on board
This style of lighthead is a practical add-on for workboats, tow or assist rigs, and fishing boats that need an attention-getting signal during dockside operations, restricted maneuvering, or deck work after dark. It is also a good match for skippers who want a compact auxiliary warning light that fits where a full beacon or larger fixture will not.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt off with fresh water after runs, especially if the unit is mounted where it gets regular spray. Periodically inspect the wiring for strain, confirm the mounting surface remains secure, and avoid harsh solvents that can haze lenses or soften adhesives.
