Overview
The Vimar VM13731.S is a 3-module flush mounting box, sized 126 x 102 mm with a total depth of 72 mm, built for IP55 cover installations where you want a protected device station set into a panel or bulkhead. The grey technopolymer body gives you a clean recess to route wiring and seat the device and cover assembly.
On a boat, this style of recessed box is typically used anywhere a switch, outlet, or control point needs extra protection from spray, washdowns, and dust, while keeping the finished surface easy to wipe down. It is a good fit when you are matching an existing Vimar protected station and need the correct 3-module box behind the cover.
Key features
- 3-module (3M) recessed mounting box for protected IP55 cover installations
- Compatible with covers 13731.Q, 13731.Q.A, 13733.Q, and 13733.Q.A
- Overall size 126 x 102 mm with 72 mm total depth for planning cutouts and clearance behind the panel
- Grey technopolymer body suited to damp locations when installed as part of an IP55 cover assembly
- Flush mounting keeps the device station low-profile and reduces snag points in tight passages and cockpits
Compatibility and fit
This mounting box is built around a 3-module layout, so it is meant for a 3-module protected cover and matching 3-module device arrangement. If you are replacing a box behind an existing watertight cover, confirm the cover part number and the module count before cutting or ordering.
The IP55 protection level depends on the complete assembly and the way it is installed. The cover, its seal, and the wall surface all matter for keeping spray out.
Installation and setup
Plan the cutout so the box sits square in the bulkhead, with enough rear clearance for the 72 mm depth plus wiring bend radius. In marine panels with core material, seal exposed core at the cut edges to help keep moisture from wicking into the laminate.
Route cables so they enter cleanly and stay strain-relieved inside the box. A simple drip loop and tidy wire routing go a long way toward keeping the inside dry and making future service easier.
Use on board
This is a practical choice for a three-module protected station in spots like a cockpit switch bank, an exterior bulkhead near the helm, or a damp utility space where a standard interior box is more likely to see spray. It suits boats already using the Vimar protected cover system and needing a recessed box that matches that 3-module format.
Maintenance and care
During routine checks, inspect the cover seal area for grit and salt buildup and clean it before it gets pressed into the sealing surface. If the station is exposed to regular washdowns, a quick rinse and wipe helps keep the cover and sealing surfaces working as intended.
